Why don't we have players ready to play a backup roll on this team?We have scholarship players at running back and wide receiver but we always play the starters and nobody else.If there not ready to play then why not, they already took there red shirt year.We played 3 tight ends so why not some of the WR's.Does anyone else think this team plays uninspired with no emotion. It was a frustrating year to watch this team get out played and out coached most of the year.Sometimes we don't have to look any further than in a mirror to see who's at fault.Hopefully with these extra practices some of the non-starters will start showing the coaches something besides getting dressed to play.I would just like to see some fire in this team win or lose.Hopefully we can get some players next year with some enthusiasm.

I can say with complete and utter certainty that no one else feels this way. You are the only one. The only one.

Stop criticizing the team, you're a bad fan.

I'm sure hoffa, BLKNGOLD, alexzelda, and the rest of the homos will all be along shortly to point that out.

What do you determine to be fire and emotion?

If it aint broke dont fix it. We had 7 wins. These kind of fairytale seasons dont come along that often. So soak it up.

Yep just what I thought someone coming on here asking a question about a question just like my boss at work. Some things will never change.

I asked for clarification. What's wrong with that? It's part of discussion. Or are you one of those people who aren't down with that on a discussion board?

"Does anyone else think this team plays uninspired with no emotion?"

You asked this question and I am asking for clarification on what you mean by emotion before I give my answer to the question.

I've said a lot stuff on here that has ****** people off and I have understood why but this one I don't get.

To me it means playing at a high energy/intensity level for 4 qtrs. This has happened infrequently starting right after Iowa beat Michigan St last year.
I know that much of this falls on the players shoulders but it also is the responsibility of the coaches. What concerns me is that playing at a high energy level used to be a strength of the Hawks during the first 10 yrs of Coach Ferentz tenure. (especially physical domination in the 4th qtr)

Hopefully the players will regain this swagger and energy level in the near future. (Maybe it doesn't happen until the next Bob Saunders or Chad Greenway type player is the leader of the team)

Fair enough, my next question then is how can you tell when you watch them play that they aren't playing with high energy or intensity. What do you look for? The reason I ask is because I think a lack of talent can appear as a lack of effort and in my mind I don't like to call out a player for a lack of effort unless the evidence is there.

I don't think the team necessarily plays uninspired and with no emotion. I think the tempo is so excruciatingly slow, particularly on offense, that it just looks that way.

Definitely agree that lack of talent can be mistaken for lack of effort.
What I'm looking at is for players who are playing with high energy even when the game is not going their way or when they are suddenly down by 10 pts to an underdog. (Sometimes even the players expression on the sidelines is an indicator) To often in the past 12 months I've seen players who seem lethargic or uninspired when the chips are down.
What I really liked about Coach Ferentz teams during his first 3 years was even though they had average at best talent they always played with intensity and fought hard for the entire game. (even if they were down by 21 pts) Maybe this is simply a misperception on my part in regard to the past 12 months.

Not sure why we go 5 wide and use a tight end and a rb...sometimes a 2nd TE also on the field. Why we can't bring in 5 wide receivers is very odd if we are going to go to that formation....unless we are in a 2 minute drill and they want to change up formations but many times we've come out in 5 wide have been out of a huddle.

im guessing we did everything we could to get our players to compete at the level they did this year and they were the best we could put out on the field. I would also bet that the players behind them were not ready yet and that the drop off would of been considerable had they been put on the field. If there was any player that was on the sidelines that could have got us wins, i would bet he would have been on the field. no one on that coaching staff wants to lose and if they had players on the sideline that could have won us games they would have been in the game (despite one game where kf said that it was his fault he didnt get mccall mccall mccall in the game. i say mccall mccall mccall because that's just how important he is to HN in his 8 carries).
