OUR KOACH IS THE BEST AROUND. YOU ARE A FOOL FOR DOWTING HIM.

Re: This season was the last straw for me. I had to make my first post here today...

I am not calling for KF to be bought out but the in game coaching mistakes are stupid and they happen over and over. Why in the heck can we not get a play in on time on a critical 3rd down play? Or you are down 11 with a make-able field goal, the wind at your back, and they go for it? Or you keep calling running plays when Northwestern has 8, sometimes 9, in the box? When they stacked the box that means you have 1 on 1 coverage with your wide receivers, with 2nd and 3rd string corners! They would wait for Northwestern to bring in their pass rush and extra DBs before they started calling pass plays.

But probably the biggest thing that makes me mad about KF, and this goes back a few weeks, is the constant losing to teams you should easily beat. I can handle losing to Northwestern (this year anyway) as they are a good team. But losing to a team like Central Michigan is probably going to keep Iowa out of a decent bowl game. Hayden Fry teams slaughtered the teams they were supposed to, and I don't want to hear about Tulsa and Hawaii. Games like that were rare in the Hayden years where with KF they are every year.

Kirk Ferentz is the same coach that he's always been. Usually the winning covers up the coaching mistakes. I became a fan of the Hawkeyes in the 70's basketball first since Bob Comings was still the football coach. When Hayden Fry came he changed the whole culture of Iowa football. HF liked to run up the score sometimes and I was in the stands for some of those games. Kirk takes his foot off the gas when we get 35-38 points. I think KF is a man of character. I am dissapointed in how he has handled this team but I'm hoping better for next year. When I look at the roster for the 1998-2000 teams there were a lot of nfl players that were on the roster. I don't see it on the roster this year but maybe some will develop into that. The 08-09 recruiting years and attrition have not helped our cause. My hope is Kirk's pride takes a hit this year and lights a fire under him to come back strong. We've seen it before and I hope we see it again.

I'm not going to be an apologist and make excuses for the way the team is playing right now. They need help. And though most people seem to want to level the finger at a single person, be it KF, GD, JV or maybe someone's mother...the bottom line is there is plenty of blame to go around. And lay blame people are happy to do. Right or wrong, this board has become a heaping pile of criticism. Some of it's valid to a one degree or another. Some of it borders on the ridiculous.

Undoubtedly, you bring up some valid points. However, anyone who wants to connect coach Ferentz's character to the performance on the field (or lack thereof) has a serious problem with perspective. It's been a growing sentiment and it's ludicrous. Say what you will about his coaching ability. Believe he has an arrogance about his program or position. Heck, consider him dismissive of the fans if you want to. But, people, find enough reason and perspective within yourselves to be able to disconnect Ferentz the coach from Ferentz the person.

He may or may not be a lot of things as a coach. But as a person, Kirk Ferentz has always been first rate. Villainizing someone because of the way their team is playing on the field says far more about you as a person than them.

"But as a person, Kirk Ferentz has always been first rate."

Ok, if you think somebody's character is first rate when he constantly deflects his responsibility upon his players, ok.

"Villainizing someone because of the way their team is playing on the field says far more about you as a person than them."

If you'd read my post again I would hope you'd use enough critical thinking skills to realize that I did not villainize ferentz because of the way his team is playing. I wouldn't have even posted on here if he would take responsibility and be accountable. That is what I mean. There are plenty of bad coaches who have good character and do not deflect and deflect their responsibility year after year. I'd never say a thing about their character. For example, look at Paul Rhoads. I don't think he will ever be a winner in the big 12. However, he is a man of good character.

Apparently the Hawks are not an elite team......

Glad this is your last straw, now you can spare yourself tons of pain and not watch the Hawks again......

It's all good now, Comanche

I thought you were done with this team? WTF are you doing continuing to post here then? Take you ball and go home, like you said you'd do.

For starters, I doubt you could find even one statement from any Ferentz press conference over the past decade in which he placed the responsibility for a loss or lack of team success solely on his players. And I think your perception is entirely wrong.

But even setting aside that difference of opinion, your notion of what constitutes a man's character is myopic. I'm sure that you would take extreme offense at being judged by someone solely on a single aspect of your personality that they viewed as flawed.

So again...lack of perspective.

You can knock the OP all you want, but the bottom line is that KF does avoid taking responsibility for the dismal shape of the program, bonehead gameday coaching, etc. He is being paid $4 million a year to put a better product on the field than we are getting.

I have mah issues with Kurt, but I don't think he goes around blaming others for the state of the program. Plz cite examples of him refusing to take responsibility kthanx.

That may be true. I simply disagree with the OP's statement about KF's character. Say what you will about him as a coach good, bad or otherwise, but don't blur the line between who he is as a coach and who he is as a person. Kirk Ferentz the person is a wonderful human being regardless of any shortcomings he may have as a coach or keeper of the Hawkeye football program.

I especially thought very highly of his character when he knowingly let his son live in low income housing for the poor while he was drawing $2. Mil a year from Iowa.

I never said the guy was perfect. I said he was a good person. We could go tit-for-tat with people citing every instance where KF's ragged edges showed and others could fire back citing every charitable work and contribution throughout the Iowa City community.

Bottom line is that if we really want to talk low-character coaches there are a dozens of deserving candidates. He's not one of them regardless of the state of the program.

Kirk is worth every penny he is paid.....

Four Million doesn't buy a lot these days.....

In this economy it will soon be like PreNazi Germany where a suitcase of marks might buy a loaf of stale moldy bread.....

Perhaps a raise will adjust things to everyones' satisfaction......
