This Picture Puts It In Perspective

I was looking through some pics and came across this one from the 2015 Maryland game. In this photo alone are 6 players currently signed to NFL squads...

Marshall Koehn
Tevaun Smith
Austin Blythe
CJ Beathard
Henry Kreiger-Coble
Cole Croston

...and 2 others who will be this time next year.

Sean Welsh
Akrum Wadley

And it doesn't show Daniels, King, Johnson, Mabin, Kittle, or McCarron, who are all currently signed.

Jewell was obviously also on this squad but not in the photo.

Nebraska fans love to talk their junk about us winning 3 out of the last 4 being flukey, but they can suck it.

There's a part of me that thinks if Vandeberg stays healthy and has himself a great year he might get a cup of coffee in the league... There's just something about that kid that when he's underestimated he just exceeds expectations and I wouldn't put it past him.

If he has the hands and quickness to get open on his own, I agree. But, I don't know that he has that kind of quickness. Might be tough to show coming off broken foot (2x).

He might surprise some NFL scouts. He looked really quick in the first 3 games last year before he got hurt. He looked just as quick as McCarron on the field and Riley went on to run a 4.36 40 at the Pro Day.

You could be right. I just haven't seen it in games. Let's see him get open against press coverage and not have issues with his foot.

I agree that coming off his foot injuries it's a strait uphill climb for him. I think he has the hands. It's strictly on his legs and feet. He's got to be fast and quick enough to create separation. He's shown he can make some tough catches with good coverage on him. Look at last yrs ISU game he had like 3 tough ones with defenders all over him. But that took perfect throws too. Can he out fight corners for position and for the ball? I'm not sure but I'm not rooting against him.

How do we have a 4.36 guy, and not get him the ball? Answer-Busy blocking the corners.

Nebraska fans are the worst - had one tell me that Iowa is a "guaranteed" win for them this season. Said that Iowa has been fortunate to play their 2nd and 3rd string guys the past 2 seasons but now they have this magical depth. I will be in Lincoln dancing on their scoreboard in November.

That's kind of funny. Delusional, but funny in a Cyclone kind of way. I like to remind the cockier Nebby fans that we have won three of the last four and outscored them 140-84 in those 4 games. The game we lost we handed to them in OT.

As much as I hate losing to Nebraska, that loss was one of those "silver lining" games. Because without the Nebraska loss in 2014, we don't get a CJB starting in 2015. That game was the impetus for KF opening up the QB competition again and then naming CJB the starter in 2015. So I'll trade the Nebraska loss for the undefeated regular season we got in 2015.... because we don't get that season with JR as the starter....

Never looked at it that way but you could be right. Kind of like totaling your car and getting a new one you like better.

Bravo - I agree.... I think it also really stuck in Kirk's craw and since that game, theirs been an emphasis on the Nebraska game that you don't always see from this program. It's like he enjoys stepping on their throats now.

That was the "that's football" press conference after the game and then the fire storm that came after.

Re: Nebraska...

3 out of the last 4, and 3-3 overall and their delirious, Uncle Rico fan base still thinks this is a garbage game that's not up to their high standards. There of course can't be a rivalry because we're so far below them. Never mind that for all intents and purposes we've always been in the B1G and they've been in a JV conference until moving up to varsity in 2011.

They still think we suck, that their schedule is always harder than ours regardless of who we play, and they still think they put out more NFL talent. That last one might have been true in the past, but we have 32 guys in the bigs vs. their 36 (we're supposed to be so much worse than them, right?), and we also have 2 active pro bowlers (Yanda and Scherff) to their 2 active pro bowlers (Suh and Incognito).

So...

This year a win would make us 4-3 overall and 4 out of the last 5, and there would be no way a Nebraska fan could put up any argument that they're more dominant than us. They'd have to either say we're better, or admit that if Iowa sucks shit then they suck shit even worse (which is definitely what those little road boner fans would do rather than admit Iowa's better).

tl;dr? We BETTER win the f'n game this year and serve up some "best-served cold" crow.

To 7 out 10 dumb dumb Husker fans, Iowa and Iowa State are basically the same thing. Seriously, and I'm not even stretching to make that statement. They really don't know the difference and are to lazy to look it up and figure it out. And so, Iowa just replaced ISU when they moved to B1G in their minds. Most think that Iowa is in Ames, most think that Iowa has a losing season every other year or more years then not ,(They've actually had more losing seasons then Iowa since 2000) and most of them count Iowa as guaranteed win every season regardless of recent outcome. I take more satisfaction in beating them then any other program on our schedule and it's not close. But I live on this side of the state.

Congratulations on developing people for the NFL. At the same time, I'd be happier with 2 more wins per year. I know its not an "either / or" question but it makes me wonder why it the wide world of sports ya can crank out NFL guys but can't compete and win more consistently against the top 20 teams in the NCAA.

Coaching and play calling, imo.

Meyer, Saban, Harbaugh, Swinney, etc. are no dummies and don't hire dummies to work under them.

At the end of the day, players make it to the NFL on individual talent which KF is very good at developing. But putting an orchestrated team effort together with 22 guys week after week takes another level of talent that this staff (and most others) doesn't have.
