This mess may help Iowa football!

I really think that this episode will help Iowa football. Everybody, from the coaches, players, trainers, etc. will develop a "bunker mentality." It will be an "us against against the world" attitude.

They will "hunker down" to show the critics and the naysayers. It will help to develop a tremendous camaraderie & bond between the players & staff.

I just think that with all the negative publicity, the entire football program will become more united.

I think it isn't as bad as some may think. No recruits seem to be leaving. This was obviously 'punishment' for the failures at the end of the season. The incoming recruits and even the players understand that it's this kind of mentality and drive that gets you to championships and the NFL. You think we get there with 5-star recruits. No we get there by working harder than anyone else. This shows that you will work your *** off in the weight room. It won't be easy but it will be worth it.

I've read nothing to suggest it was punishment at all.
That said if safety for all athletes is improved because of this it is a good thing.

Somebody else posted that Ballard said the last time this workout was used was after the 2006 season, the last time we failed to meet expectations.

Did Ballard enroll early? His statement was used to suggest that perhaps Bernstine had never done the workout before, but they were in the same class.

Multiple parents have been quoted stating that the coaches told the players: " Iowa Football failed way to many times this year, We are going to see who really wants it"

Thats punishment in my book.

and the same line every coach in the world uses to motivate.

A Pat Forde column is not a quote.

In a way, it happened with MSU. At the end of '09, they were a public disgrace after the Rather Hall invasion incident.

In '10 they regrouped and won a co-Big 10 title (Even though they were the worst Big Ten champs I've ever seen)
