Tough to throw for 300+ when your go-to starting WR and TE are out.
I know CJ is capable of playing big in big games, I'm just not sure his receivers can get any separation against a top defense. I just have this feeling he's going to be running for his life and his receivers will be all "Brokeback Mountain" with the Wisky DBs.
This^. We easily have the worst receivers in the conference, if not the nation. He has nobody to throw to. Not sure what people expect him to do, but our receivers are just awful, and we haven't even faced a decent defense yet. If Kittle doesn't play, then we might as well run it twice and punt every series. Wisconsin is on another level defensively, and offensively I think they run it down our throats. They have good receivers and a very good tight end, and we have a habit of making many quarterbacks look like All-Americans.
We also have a way of finding ourselves in every game for four quarters and keeping games competitive for four quarters. There is also the history of our run defense showing up in big games which gives opposing QBs the opportunity to look like All-Americans. That said if given the choice going in I'd rather see them one dimensional through the air with limited success on the ground than seeing Wiscy's ground game running all over us. I think I'd rather take my chances with Wiscy attacking us through the air.
CJ didn't win 'games' like this. The defense and run game did. Look at his performance in their 'big games' last year (NW, Wisky, Nebby, etc...). We all know he's capable? What 'big game' has he EVER had against a GOOD football team?CJ has won games like this or did you forget the 12-0 last year. Wisconsin isn't that much different from last year. That was with a much inferior OL (and WRs) than Rudock had. We all know CJ is capable of a big game so let's hope it's against Wiscy.

We've had much better defenses and run games, not to mention OLs and WRs, and never went 12-0. CJ is a winner. He wasn't 2nd team all Big Ten for nothing.

And that goes back to the Greg Davis hire and his WR's coach that he had to have and we're still waiting to see the results on the field.Hmmm. All big games. All on the road. All wins for CJ. If CJ had a coaching staff that wasn't stuck in the early 19th century, I think you would be amazed at what he is capable of. Just win baby!!
I know!!! Right!!! It is AMAZING that we have gone 17-2 in the regular season the last 2 years with the WORST receivers in all of football.....bahahaha....you folks kill me. Go carry some clubs for tips, Mr. 'Caddy' and quit embarrassing yourself here.......good grief.........This^. We easily have the worst receivers in the conference, if not the nation. 'WE' slow the game down???? Lol.......So you're involved in this??? Lol....Well then we'll just blame you....That's because 90% of the time we slow the game down to a snail's pace. We run the clock down on every snap, and are a run dominant team (though sometimes it seems like we get real pass happy when we don't need to).
The frustrating part is when the other team jumps out on us, and we still continue to move at the snail's pace. Cause we're Iowa and we do what we do.
WI plays the same style of football, but they vary their attack. Lots of motion, jet sweeps, roll outs, to try and out maneuver the opposing defense. One of the biggest strengths of their QB is his accuracy. Aside from dual threat QBs, I feel this is also kryptonite for Iowa's defense scheme. We dare QB's to dink and dunk, assuming they cannot do it for 75 yards. We haven't faced a real accurate QB yet, so I'm concerned that even if we do well to limit their rushing attack, their QB will easily find the holes in our zone coverage.
CJ is going to have to do the same thing, but he's hindered by poor WR play, and even worse schemes.
But we'll find out in 48 hours how it plays out
