This is the game CJ has to win

This will be a close game as the badgers line it up and run it and they have an immobile young QB. They will not score a lot.

CJ is a senior QB playing at home and needs to step up. 50% completion and 170 yards won't do it. When we all clamored for him to start 2 years ago it was because we thought he could win games like this that Jake couldn't.

Well usually his completion percentage is 60%+ but correct the hawks passing game is not generating a lot of yards. Now when CJ doesnt have a lot of time to scour the field and cant find open targets I would say that is not his fault that the yards are not there in the passing game. He has delivered a lot of great passes this year, some great passes to Vandy, when we needed one late against jNW he hit J Smith on a 46 yarder down by the goal line.

But the hawks will need to establish the run first as bad as their pass blocking is and how Wisky blitzes out of their 3-4. If the hawks cant run it could be a long game because the passing game is not that in tune to march down the field like a Baylor or Oregon used to.

For some reason I always remember Stanzi's senior year home game against Wisky. The way he looked like a deer in the headlights against their rush on the last drive was so sad.

Hopefully things go better for CJ.

I've heard CJ has been practicing all week throwing while lying on his back. We should be ready. I know it's hard to simulate in practice, but this makes me feel better.

I heard they were having him throw like Rothlisberger with a R defensive end hanging on his back. Trying to toughen him up a bit.

2010 and 2014 were painful home game against the Badgers. Like the OP said, CJ has to win this game. And somehow, our receiving corps must help him and make some plays. Jake lit up UW in the second half after we played so damn conservatively in the first half two yrs ago. We held melVin gordon in check until that late long run. I see a similar game this year with hopefully better results.

Cj needs this. Iowa needs this.

CJ has won games like this or did you forget the 12-0 last year. Wisconsin isn't that much different from last year. That was with a much inferior OL (and WRs) than Rudock had. We all know CJ is capable of a big game so let's hope it's against Wiscy.

I know CJ is capable of playing big in big games, I'm just not sure his receivers can get any separation against a top defense. I just have this feeling he's going to be running for his life and his receivers will be all "Brokeback Mountain" with the Wisky DBs.

In other words, we need to mix up a lot more no-huddle and stuff. GooD luck seeing that...

Hell every Iowa Q has that look 87...o_O...yep that's it....

What big games are you talking about? He's never thrown for over 280 yards, He has only broke 250 twice, and he's never thrown for 4 TDs. I realize we are Iowa fans so our definition of a big passing game is skewed compared to the rest of cfb but if you look at his career stats he will need a miracle performance to beat Wisconsin. If we line up and run it straight into the line we will get blown out.

Big wins. CJ wasn't 2nd team All Big Ten for nothing. This Wiscy team isn't that much different than their 10-3 team we beat last year. I believe we will win. The passing stats are more a function of our philosophy on offense (and lack of WR and OL). Its probably difficult to find a Wiscy QB who has thrown for a lot of yards to.

There will be 3 or 4 opportunities to get big chunk plays in the passing game and Iowa will have to capitalize on 1 or 2 of them. Say what you will about GD, but in this game I think he will dial up those plays at the right time.....It is just a matter of execution.

Agree with you on the philosophy but CJ had 77 yards passing last year against Wisconsin and we only won because they gave us the game on a goaline fumble. They are a much improved team while we are a lot worse. I just don't see him having a big game when he can't do it against the crap teams. Our only chance is special teams giving us great field position and the defense playing lights out all day otherwise I see a route.

Hopefully we can get a charge from the running game. If we dont, it could very easily turn into hunting season on CJ!

If we can stay out of 3rd and longs we will have a chance to win,if not I'm afraid it could be a long day and CJ might get knocked out of the game if he doesn't get rid of the ball quickly.
