This is getting so much more ****ed up...

To add to my post, after seeing this article, written last APRIL for Pete's sake, I find it impossible to believe Joe didn't know more: http://www.hawkeyenation.com/forum/big-10-sports/37097-article-last-april-pointed-cover-up.html

The events of 1998/1999 simply weren't a coincidence - a long-time, award-winning coach doesn't retire at age 55 like that. Joe knew. F' him. I still don't understand why he wasn't indicted for claiming McQueary didn't give him details. We know McQueary gave details to the administration, why would he hold back with Joe, the first guy he met with?

This is exactly why he wasn't given the benefit of the doubt. While not being criminally responsible (I suppose) and not having any evidence to say that he is, the intelligent human being, by simple deduction, can figure out that JoePa knew more than he is admitting to, and probably was involved in a cover up.

I agree on the simple deduction, but of course, a board can't terminate someone's employment based solely on that. Which is why I believe they have access to much more information than we do right now. Certainly the local PA reporters are saying that. Stay tuned.

This might end up as the single craziest story ever. This new "wrinkle" certainly explains the need to cover up instead of out Sandusky. Sick. It is just really sick.

What are the odds that Cal Ripken Jr, Mark Wahlberg or Andy Reid were involved in this too?

Probably none. Often these celebrities are attached in name only. They may do an event here or there, but odds are they haven't a clue as to the actual inner workings of these organizations.

And I don't say that thinking that these guys are only doing it to get their name out there. I'm sure they really believe that good work is being done, that they want good work to be done. But they have no reason to know what is really going on.

Here's the text from the article regarding these additional allegations...

"Just when you thought the Penn State child sex-abuse scandal couldn't possibly get any worse, we may have just scratched the surface. Joe Paterno being fired could be just the start of arguably the biggest downfall in the history of college athletics.

Pittsburgh radio personality Mark Madden, who penned a column for the Beaver County Times back in April of this year named "Sandusky a State secret," a column which foreshadowed the recent scandal which has absolutely gutted those of us in the Penn State family, was a guest on the Dennis & Callahan Morning Show on WEEI sports talk radio out of Boston on Thursday morning. During his appearance, Madden, who has been mostly right regarding this issue from the very start, dropped what can only be called a bombshell, an announcement which could mean far more than the end of Joe Paterno's career.

Madden stated that two "prominent columnists" are currently investigating a rumor that Jerry Sandusky's Second Mile Foundation, a non-profit organization aimed to serve underprivileged youths, was "pimping out young boys to rich (Penn State) donors." Madden went on to say that Jerry Sandusky was told by those running the show at Penn State football that Sandusky had to retire after allegations made in 1998 that the defensive coordinator was guilty of "improper conduct with an underage male." Sandusky, thought by some to be Joe Paterno's successor at the time, abruptly and somewhat shockingly retired from coaching in 1999.

It actually gets worse. Madden went on to say "When Sandusky quit, everybody knew; not just at Penn State. It was a very poorly kept secret around college football, in general. That is why he never coached in college football again and retired at the relatively young age of 55, young for a coach." Madden also called the Second Mile Foundation "the perfect cover" for Sandusky's scheme.

I want to be absolutely clear about a few things. These reports, as of the writing of this piece, are coming only from Mark Madden, and they are currently only rumors and speculation. With that said, Mark Madden has been mostly correct about a grand jury investigation which was sealed until very recently. I'm not suggesting that I 100 percent believe Madden to be correct. I'm certainly not ignoring a word he's saying regarding the Sandusky case at this point.

Late Wednesday evening after Joe Paterno was fired by Penn State, an "in the know" individual told me that this story was going to get uglier, and that there were, at the very least, "dozens of more victims." My absolute worst fear regarding the issue is what Mark Madden spoke on Thursday morning.

It's been widely reported that the US Department of Education is currently investigating Penn State. Are they going to find that Jerry Sandusky was running a multimillion-dollar criminal organization, one which resulted in dozens, possibly hundreds (or even more), of youths being sexually abused? Will they find that higher-ups at Penn State, including now former football coach Joe Paterno, covered-up Sandusky's heinous crimes? All I know this morning is that, after the worst week of my Penn State life, I don't know if anything would shock me."

Does anyone else find the timing of this to be curious? So all of this breaks 6 days AFTER JoPa breaks the all-time wins list? Things that make you go hmmm.

FWIW, Heath Evans (Seattle Seahawks) is on Rome right now. Apparently, he has a foundation for sexually abused children (his wife was abused) and he said that, in his opinion, there is absolutely no way possible that JoePa didn't know exactly what was going on. As a football player, he said that, much like Vegas, what goes on in the program stays in the program, and that it is such a tight brotherhood, everyone knows everyone's business.

Seems very plausible.

I think I already did.

Is humanity really this ####ed up?

Considering this entire scandal pales in comparison to the **** we humans have done to each other in the past, and in fact continue to do to each other in the present...is this even a question? But for all the evil in this world, there is good too. It's just saddening to see that people like JoePa, who many would have expected to chase any and all sources down to bring people like Sandusky to justice would apparently turn a blind eye instead.

This is the piece I've thought was missing, too. They clearly protected an individual that was not worth protecting, but why did they think PSU would be in danger from reporting it right away. If this pimping ring includes some donors to the university and athletic department, then they would have a [completely **** poor] reason to cover up the incident.

Dinardo said almost the exact same thing yesterday on BTN. He said that especially within a coaching staff, there are no secrets due to the amount of time they spend together and all the cohesion that goes into being part of the staff.

Precisely what I was going to say. Read a book about the holocaust and you'll never have to ask this question again. I promise that despite what you may have learned in school, you will be shocked anew.

But I would also say that, hopefully, in moments like these when we look up and find the depravity of men staring back, that it wouldn't crush our spirits for long. That it would instead cause us to bolster our courage and compassion and step out to look for ways to begin making a difference in our own corner of the world. Because clearly the world needs people to do so.

You think this is bad, wait until this goes to trial. Sandusky has nothing to hide, I bet he throws everybody under the bus. If he comes out and tells exactly how he was forced into retirement you could be looking at charges for other people. This thing is far from being over. This cover up has been going on since the mid 90's and they have only scratched the surface with what has happened at Penn State.

I am telling you all this, by the time this is over we will all want Penn State out of the conference. I already do, this is sick, disgusting, and I do not want the Big Ten or Iowa to be associated with a school like this.
