This Guy Gets It

Well...if this were the SEC, we'd have better offensive linemen based on the family payment system that goes on in the SEC.

God...this is no different than any other year where injuries have decimated a position. Banwart was hurt in camp...A. Jackson goes down in the first game...Schott goes down...and we juggle the rest. Moving Kallenberger to guard is a step in the right direction...but you can't expect him to dominate against a team as seasoned as Penn State. He needs some time...unfortunately, but I thought he did well for the most part in the passing game. Honestly, I think we may have to start the true freshman, Britt at left guard. We should have better depth...and I honestly thought we did, but the older players are not playing like 5th year seniors. That's surprising.

We played two pretty good defenses...especially Penn State. They pass the eye test.

We have a couple of weeks here where the mistakes won't be as magnified and the pass rushes not nearly as athletic. Let's see if we can find an OL combination that will beat 5 of the next 6. Wisconsin isn't going to happen for us.
You need a dose of reality

Looking at schedule we have a decent shot to win every game with exception of the Wisky game. We have zero chance at Camp Randall unless we can pull a rabbit out of the hat.

Now we will likely lose at least one game (prolly Minny) unless we can improve from where we are at today on the O-line. That is the challenge going forward, to make chicken salad out of our chicken s%*t!

Thinking back to the Miami and Middle Tenn games the pass rush from those teams was better than expected, now I understand fully why that was. They weren't exceptional D lines as my homer eyes were thinking.

A lot of Iowa fans are worried that Brian is a lock to be the next head coach. If so, I am a bit worried he will bring his two brothers on to the staff as well.

Having Brian take over as soon as Kirk retires is 100% the plan. The only question remains is whether they can keep the program average enough for him to actually take it there. They want a couple of good years and then KF will walk away and Barta will sign off on it.

I think by law, once Kirk retires or is pushed out, the UofI has to advertise to position. I wonder how many would apply for it? I'm sure most candidates will already know Brian will have the keys handed to him, so why waste your time. It's sad to think that there are other coaches out there who are more qualified than Brian and won't even have a chance at the head job.

Ya there’s coaches who won’t even bother. Ohio State called Campbell last year and he declined to interview because Day was getting the job anyway.

If Barta simply hands the keys over to BF just because that what Kirk wants, then there needs to be riots. And then a new AD.

Think French Revolution.

You are probably right that they have to post it legally just like corporations have some of those regulations but to your point....outsiders are still going to figure that BF gets that position. We are just lowly little Iowa so we could never get anyone worth choosing over BF....

The best we can hope for is that Barta gets replaced and doesn't get to make the next hire....Bball or football. That way there's no allegiance to the Ferentz family. Then it would maybe be a fair hiring process.

Didn't Michigan fans a few years back get so angry over something with their football program that a large group of them went to the AD's or President's home to protest?

Something like that, yeah, though I don't remember the circumstances. But that's Michigan. A place where there are actually expectations. o_O
