This Guy Gets It

Weakness isn’t the problem. Assignments and technique are, and that’s coaching.

When 5 year guys who’ve earned letters are whiffing on blocks and turned facing the quarterback trying not to hold instead of staying in front of their assignment, that’s coaching. The only reason Wirfs looks good out there is because his cartoonish genetics and strength can make up for it. The rest of those guys look like MAC backups.

Maybe next time Ferentz can hire a guy who’s actually played on a line or had some experience coaching one before.

That just completely befuddles me how he got the job. I mean, this is a Big Ten program with way more money than most, how do you hire a guy with zero experience (playing or coaching) to run that unit?

Would you hire a video guy who had never run a camera before but had watched someone do it a whole bunch of times?

Would you hire a truck driver to haul the gear from one stadium to the next if he had never been behind the wheel before?

Not only that, would you continue to let the guy drive your rig even if he keeps repeatedly crashing the truck like Polasek has done?
Great post! I've been both a video guy and a truck driver (not the big rigs) and I know how I would feel if I'm in the mobile production van producing and my camera operators didn't have a clue.

Isn’t Steve-O with the team already as a grad assistant? I thought I read that somewhere.
Probably.

The only thing that could possibly threaten the natural ascension of Brian, then James, and finally Steve to their pre-ordained position of HC at Iowa is the development and universal acceptance of cloning.

At some point we may be able to drop a literal KF clone out there and never worry about coaching changes again.

Nirvana!

I think inevitably there will be a 'Ferentz Field at Kinnick Stadium'. Just like universities name courts after coaches. Gonna piss me off.

This year I still have faith in my original regular season win/loss prediction...8-4. Our Defense is outstanding.

Well they showed Joe Philbin at the game maybe he is looking to get back into a stable environment instead of the NFL carousel. Our line play has deff fallen off since Reece switched to DL. Injuries and poor depth don't help much either. I'm curious if we are using less roster spots on oline than we used to?

He DOESN'T look good. Unfortunately, he ain't alone.

A lot of Iowa fans are worried that Brian is a lock to be the next head coach. If so, I am a bit worried he will bring his two brothers on to the staff as well.

Funny how Polasek OCs an NDSU that beat Iowa at Iowa and now everyone thinks he can’t coach.

I hear what you're saying, but he is a former qb who is coaching the line who had zero experience doing that before coming here. So maybe he just isn't a natural line coach.

Just like our OC who was never a qb and obviously doesn't think like one.

I've officially entered the "I'll record it and maybe watch it later" portion of the season. I get way too worked up watching us play like we have the last two games, and it's not worth a stroke or heart attack!
