This Guy Gets It

Zone blocking with this group has been a disaster . Somebody on every play blocks the wrong guy . Wondering if these kids would be more suited for hat on hat ? Then I watch someone block a hat right in front of them and they get bitch slapped . The offensive line looks like MAC level talent with a Mac level QB

But the Paulsen twins can do the splits and dance at basketball halftime, and Wirfs can hang clean 15,000 lbs!!!

That has to be worth something. At least twitter says it does.

When I watched the Wirfs video I threw my Hawkeye hat and ran a block screaming “let’s go!!!” After these last two performances I will be searching for a golden girls marathon on Saturday.

Exactly right they would be, and they should be here as well. Maybe it's time to take a look at Doyle as well, and why our line is so weak and getting pushed around every single game.

We like to support the politically correct everyone gets a trophy philosophy...at least Gary Barta does but instead of the trophy Gary hands out massive contracts that carry massive buyout clauses. He's the ultimate pimp daddy when it comes to feel good.

Iowa basically copied what Mike Shannanhan did with Broncos in the late 90's, early 2000's. Which was great and it worked for awhile. This coaching staff is slow to react, like it always has been, so big time adjustments will be made in the off season. Instead of making calls to the East to New England, make them West to San Francisco. Kyle Shannonhan has taken his father's core philosophy and tweaked it for the 2019 game.

Weakness isn’t the problem. Assignments and technique are, and that’s coaching.

When 5 year guys who’ve earned letters are whiffing on blocks and turned facing the quarterback trying not to hold instead of staying in front of their assignment, that’s coaching. The only reason Wirfs looks good out there is because his cartoonish genetics and strength can make up for it. The rest of those guys look like MAC backups.

Maybe next time Ferentz can hire a guy who’s actually played on a line or had some experience coaching one before.

That just completely befuddles me how he got the job. I mean, this is a Big Ten program with way more money than most, how do you hire a guy with zero experience (playing or coaching) to run that unit?

Would you hire a video guy who had never run a camera before but had watched someone do it a whole bunch of times?

Would you hire a truck driver to haul the gear from one stadium to the next if he had never been behind the wheel before?

Not only that, would you continue to let the guy drive your rig even if he keeps repeatedly crashing the truck like Polasek has done?

Because at the time Pops asked Jr who he would like to be HIS OC in five years. Jr pulled his thumb from his mouth and said that guy from that school with the green and yellow outfits that kicked our ass.

Give em credit. That family thinks long-term. They have had a plan in place for awhile. Being the o-line geniuses they are they never could have fathomed how sucky it would be though. And arrogant Brian probably thought devising game plans and calling plays would be as easy as lining up army men in his sandbox. He is in over his head. He probably has no time to help Polesak. Or maybe he is and that's the problem? What about Kirk? Oh yeah, he insisted on playing AJac last week when he clearly wasn't ready. Every snap.

Heaven forbid any big dollar donors pin GB in a closed room and give him the business. Maybe they should. I wish they would. Send a fucking message, "This isn't working "

Well...if this were the SEC, we'd have better offensive linemen based on the family payment system that goes on in the SEC.

God...this is no different than any other year where injuries have decimated a position. Banwart was hurt in camp...A. Jackson goes down in the first game...Schott goes down...and we juggle the rest. Moving Kallenberger to guard is a step in the right direction...but you can't expect him to dominate against a team as seasoned as Penn State. He needs some time...unfortunately, but I thought he did well for the most part in the passing game. Honestly, I think we may have to start the true freshman, Britt at left guard. We should have better depth...and I honestly thought we did, but the older players are not playing like 5th year seniors. That's surprising.

We played two pretty good defenses...especially Penn State. They pass the eye test.

We have a couple of weeks here where the mistakes won't be as magnified and the pass rushes not nearly as athletic. Let's see if we can find an OL combination that will beat 5 of the next 6. Wisconsin isn't going to happen for us.

Wirfs hasn't been the problem. He's the only one doing his freaking job.

Letting Polasek go would be a great way to say it's not Brian's fault.
We have two former OL coaches and two former OCs on staff, none of them with much experience in their actual position. KF to OL coach, Polasek or OKeefe to OC, and Brian to HC. Problem solved.

A lot of Iowa fans are worried that Brian is a lock to be the next head coach. If so, I am a bit worried he will bring his two brothers on to the staff as well.
