This Game Will Come Down To Linebacker Play.

Load the box...make the lefty QB beat you. Our corners are good enough to play man to man. Make them one dimensional and you win.

Whoever wins the Iowa vs Wisconsin game tomorrow will have to have the better LB play. The teams are so similar to each other with physical fronts and running game. I think the team that has the better LB play tomorrow will come out on top.

The LB play will dictate who can stop the running games and who can cover the opponents TE's and receivers better. To me, this is the group on the field that will dictate who wins and loses.

The LB's in the 09 game are why we won that one vs the badgers.

I think line play will be huge. If Wisconsin has to send two of their LBs on a consistent basis to get pressure, it bodes well for the Iowa offense. If Iowa's defense doesn't need DBs in the box for run support, that will help greatly.

Wisconsin always blitzes out of the 3-4, hence the reason it is so effective. They always bring pressure, and you never know where it is coming from. They are very aggressive on defense, and have been for quite some time.

The game boils down to which Iowa offense shows up, and whether or not our defense can make Hornibrook beat us. If our offense that played all year except last weeks game shows up, then we lose. If we let Wisky run the ball with success, then we lose.

Hey, our offense played well against the clowns too.

Iowa's offensive backfield (FB, TE, HB) are going to have to block well this game, otherwise Wisconsin's linebackers are going to penetrate.

Once again, Wadley is going to get stuffed in the Inside/outside zone running game. He is far more effective catching the ball out of the backfield or any other way they can get him in space.

Iowa needs to deploy a variety of short yardage plays as a proxy for their usual zone running game. Misdirection plays, TE & FB releases, high percentage short passes, running out of the shotgun.

Move the pocket. Mover the pocket. Move the pocket. Mover the pocket. If you can get Stanley an extra half second in the pocket he will carve Wisconsin up.

If Wisconsin's defense consistently sells out to get to the HB and QB quickly, Iowa needs to take advantage.

Wisconsin will be amped up to win this game, feeling if they win it they have clinched a trip to Indy. Wisconsin has two tough games on their schedule Iowa and Michigan. The game is in Madison and that's a negative for Iowa. Iowa needs to put them on their heals, force them out of their game offensively and defensively. There aren't any secrets between these two teams. But Iowa has the weapons.

If Iowa can mix it up, keep Wisconsin's defense guessing that will go a long way to winning the game. Wisconsin will work to stop Iowa's TE tandem. Hopefully this opens it up for the WR's or Akrum Wadley. When Iowa goes to the spread Wisconsin will have trouble covering all of Iowa's options. Anytime Wisconsin blitz's an extra man to bring pressure, it puts them in a man situation. And with Iowa's options and that can be a problem.

It will come down to QB play. Iowa has a lot of options in a passing game and running game. Slow Wisconsin's run and force them to pass and force their QB to win the game.

Iowa 31-17

I haven't read the entire thread but I would propose that our safety play will be key in this one.

Wisconsin's power running game is designed so that at least one lineman will get to the second level and take out a LB. Jewell and/or Bower will get covered up a lot. It's imperative that Hooker and Gervase fill those gaps and tackle with authority (not easy with Taylor). At the same time, Wisky will be looking to the TEs and RBs out of the backfield off of play action, especially Fumagalli, so the safeties will have to be disciplined with the pass coverage as well.

I think if Hooker and Gervase have stellar games, we have a very good chance of pulling it out.

Stanley could be much better than hornibrook in the passing game. Forecast for 35 degrees and light winds.

Iowa's passing game could be much better and the difference , lets see what BF and the OLine can do

When coupled with atrocious performances--across the board--from the offense, it makes for an "all-world"-looking defense.

At one point, I was thinking that as long as the offense could get to Wisconsin's 35, make those possessions 4-down territory and call an off-tackle play no matter the yardage needed. That would at least get the D back on the field and give the Hawks a fighting chance.
