This D May Be As Fun to Watch as the '85 Bears

The starting D has given up 3 points in 8 quarters against two good football teams. They are putting pressure on the QB. The LBs are young but improving rapidly. The secondary looks very solid ... despite the loss of JJ to the NFL. They remind me a lot of the '85 Bears because they are actually fun to watch dominate a game.

D is on point and improving week to week. Hopefully, next week with UNI the O-line can get stuff rolling and get their air attack working. Going to need that with Wisconsin on the 15th.

Yes they are fun to watch. Too bad the offense is the exact opposite of that.

First, we have no idea if either team we beat are good teams.

Second, the 85 bears had an extremely potent offense.

Third, our offense doesn’t dominate anyone or anything. The bears offense was on the field a long time and gave the defense long periods of rest.

Fourth, thus far our offense has looked BAD against teams that we have no idea how good or bad their defenses are.

Fifth, our offensive line has looked porous as Stanley seldom has time to set up in the pocket.

Sixth, if you think this team has been fun or entertaining to watch you probably enjoy watching cars rust.

I get it that your are talking about the defense but Iowa State appears to be a one dementional team offensively which is their running back. We were able to key on him. God only knows what going to happen when we play a team that has multiple offensive threats.

The bears 85 defense just overpowered and smothered their opponents. Richard Dent was an absolute beast and had to be doubled teamed and even then he couldn’t be kept out of the backfield.

The 85 bears had the Super Bowl shuffle. Our offense looks like they should be playing shuffleboard with a bunch of geriatric ward members. Just awful.

A win is a win and I will give them that. Beat UNI and then when we play Wisconsin beat them and then I will give our team props. I don’t care if we win 3-0 or 10-7 against Wisconsin, just win. Then I will be impressed.

The bears this team is not at this point. Beat UNI and shut down Wisconsin then we will be talking a comparison to the 85 BEARS. If you want to compare our team to the last bears Super Bowl team that would be more realistic as the last bears Super Bowl team got to there with a strong defense and a placid offense.

LOL. I'm sure this thread will end up on Cyfan. I can just hear them now. "Did you know we played the "85 Bears today...no wonder we had so much trouble moving the ball. They shouldn't be allowed to play pro players."

Seriously though...why go to the "85 Bears...the Steeler "Steel Curtain" is more appropriate. LOL.

I know this is a rewording but keep this in mind....In two games the Iowa offense has had 3 points at half and didn't trail either of those games.

The defense could be great and I certainly hope it is. It just at this point we just don’t know. Your statement makes our defense sound great but our offense sound like poop.

His entire post was about the defense.

I guess the underline portion of the original post did not click with you. You don't have to convince me our offense sucks right now but that is another topic. ;)

We've played NIU and ISU. Lets see what happens when we play a good offense. That ISU O line was awful. NIU was also held to 6 by Utah today. So they aren't exactly world beaters either.

We have seen this for 20 years now. You can't tell when Iowa has something special brewing on defense? Barring injuries, this D will be legit all year. How many victories this will translate into.......I don't know.

The 1985 Bears defense isn't much help when it's paired with the 1972--er, 2018--Iowa offense.

That said, this defense is legit. The D-line, alone, should get Heisman votes "in aggregate".

Our offense doesn't sound like anything. It is poop.

The DL is a salty bunch. The LBs need to step up and fill gaps quicker. They waited for contact too many times yesterday. That will improve as the games go by.

Might want to pump the breaks a little... NIU put up only 6 points at home against Utah last night. Now granted I don't know a thing about Utahs D but NIU doesn't seem to have a potent offense... ISU on the other hand before that game started I would have guessed they'd score closer to 50 than 0 on us. So what do I know?... Regardless our D is really really good and we'll be leaning on them all year long since our O hasn't gotten it together yet. Sure hope we stay healthy because it's fun to watch. The other teams on 3rd down just can't figure out what we're going to do. We've blitzed, We've zone blitzed with AJE dropping in coverage, we've had our regular front 4 look with no blitzing, We've given many looks already on 3rd downs for others to see so there's no preparing for what we'll be doing any given time. PParker is assistant coach of the year as far as I'm concerned...
