The goobers in NC claim the vinegar sauce is theirs, but it is my understanding that the vinegar sauce was actually developed in Charleston. Charleston and Savannah were the avant garde of southern cities and NC was full of rubes. Someone in NC stole the recipe and claimed it was from NC.
