These 'Apology' Threads

These ‘ you need to make an apology’ threads. If anonymous message board users feel the need to apologize, see your local confessional, call a friend or whatever. These posts that are popping up too often; just stop. They are not productive, they continue the infighting from this past off season, etc.

I’ve said my peace several times on where I was wrong (and where I wasn’t) from last year. I only feel a little remorse in not believing Kirk could make the changes he had to make, only because we’ve rarely seen entrenched coaches do that in the history of the sport. But my name is attached to it, I give opinions for a living…and frankly, I can take whatever anyone wants to sling at me on all this, because a lot of the things I said, they weren't based in anything other than what we were or weren't seeing...there are some things I would take back and have pretty much owned those...so I don't care if folks wanna run at me.

But on these boards, with folks bringing this stuff up to others each day, it serves no purpose and is just as divisive as the things they did not like....this anonymous message board cabal of ‘haters’ or ‘supporters’….look, everyone is happy. We don’t need this stuff to keep popping up. It’s been two months…I think people get the point. Picking at scabs is pointless. No more.

But you make an anti-Ferentz post just a few days.

Talk about a double standard.

Jon is level headed. And of course he is right. Sports message boards allow people to debate and commiserate. But people who think they deserve respect for trumpeting the same thought IN EVERY POST, really bring nothing to this board. I'm talking about the one trick ponies without critical thinking skills whose only contribution to any conversation is "you're not as good a fan as me" or an ad hominem post that proudly declares its hatred of an individual. You know, those one word replies "moron" - "stupid" - "dumb" - "hater". Occasionally I get emotional and say things I shouldn't. So IMO none of us should expect perfect behavior and we all slip up. Personally, I remember the Alford years where a certain portion of the fan base believed supporting a coach who is moving a proud program backwards is a sign of integrity and true courage. I never agreed with the personal attacks on Steve, but Hawkeyes had a point when they said we had lowered our expectations in order to justify his employment. As sports fans we probably shouldn't be surprised that there is competition among us to declare ourselves BEST HAWKEYE FAN EVER (yes it's silly and infantile, as is thinking message board posts are important accomplishments). The problem arises when people transfer their loyalty from the program (where it belongs) to an individual who serves a larger historical interest called THE PROGRAM. On a personal note: I luv Hayden Fry, but he retired after his worst season ever for personal health reasons and also because of the love he had for the program he built. That's the type of coach I want at Iowa.

I don't think anyone on these boards are "apologizing" for what they see, what they feel in regards to Kirk & Co., but to call out a fanbase at every little whip stitch, is ridiculous in my opinion. I was vocal that we needed change, that we needed a younger perspective and, so right now I'm eating crow and enjoying it, maybe Jon needs to clean house a little....

The whole idea of demanding an apology on a fan site forum, which very existence is to allow people to express their points of view, is odd. Maybe there could be a forum (or whole new website) that's entitled - Positive Hawkeye Comments Only.

With that said, I'd like to apologize for not apologizing for not issuing an apology from those who demand an apology. For that, I'm truly sorry.

We have one of the prime culprits right in this thread who demand this board be an echo chamber of their thoughts.

For being 7-0 there seems to be lots of accusations, finger pointing, and excuse making.......thank Gawd that is just fan on fan trolling.
