The speed of KMM, Duzey, on the replay and Powell, maybe Smith

Our group of WR is the weakest link on this team in my opinion.

Which is why it was a great strategy to put the game plan in place that utilizes our TE which is one of our deepest units.

I'd still give the nod to the secondary for weakest link. At least the WR's have KMM, who does his job pretty consistently. The secondary's best member (Lowery) has been VERY inconsistent this season. King might actually be the most reliable defensive back we have right now.

It's close but I stick by my opinion.
King isn't much of a drop off from lowery but when you look at the WRs, who is our #2 behind kmm? Powell has had a couple big plays but is still fighting for more play time. Smith has made a couple nice catches but I don't see anybody producing consistently and thus my opinion.

Uihawk has it right. No reason powell should not be open on a come back and some more attention to the db, s hips and patterns on film should really help all of them get open more or atleast open the window more. Then its just making the throws and timing.

You know osu has problems, right. Not a coach out there that will not review that play. I am not sure if i would find it sad or funny if osu played oregon. Make the b10 look like crap, then again maybe oregons coach could have somethings to say about meyer and such in the post game. Then again, as people have said, we take care of what we need and maybe just maybe kf and our players get to give a post gamer after we see them again.

He's not the best in coverage (yet) but he is a good tackler. I don't recall a tackle he didn't make if he got a hand the ball carrier. Reminds me of Hyde's play in 2010. If he puts it together mentally then he could be all B!G by the time he graduates.

How many real shots did we take downfield yesterday? I remember two.

Dont get me wrong, I loved the game plan and I think we have found our identity with the TE sets, but we should have taken 5-6 shot downfield, especially in the second half. Their safeties were up to stop the run and the short passes. I will never understand why Powell didn't get one deep ball...if anything to get them to respect the fact that we would throw deep. Baffling.

IF we have all this speed at WR, why do our receivers have so much trouble getting separation on their routes? Honest question. Lacking strength? Poor route running? Hard to get a good view of this on TV broadcasts, so has anybody that has been at the games noticed anything?
The old "football speed" or "explosiveness" factor. Take two players that have the same 40 time and run them side by side. It's not uncommon to see one player just explode out of the gate and get a step or two on the other, only to be passed down the line because the second player has a much higher top speed. JD took advantage of a momentary lapse by the dback and was able to get up to his top speed. Those long legs cover a lot of ground on each stride and he was moving them. I think we can say ditto w/ KMM. The guy was flying once he got out of traffic. What is more amazing to me was the size differential that was apparent in their endzone celebration. Hope to see more of THAT kind of mismatch <G>.

They did respect Powell when he was out there. One of the announcers was going on about how soft OSU's coverage was after one of Powell's catches, because our receivers "couldn't burn them deep, so why not give a smaller cushion?"

They weren't stupid. When Powell was in, they definitely had some respect for the deep ball.

Yes, there were some well designed routes out of the 3 TE sets.

Big Props to Jake Ruddock on the throw. On the replays I watched JR had an extra count to really measure that throw and he made a great touch throw.

If JR has time he has a very accurate arm.

So why'd he throw it to the guy in red the last drive? Had plenty of time.

He had time, but no one was open and we needed a play. So he forced it. It looked like Powell may also have cut his route short, and on those short routes, it's all about timing; expecting your receiver to be in a certain spot at a certain time.

I just watched a replay of the 85 yd TD pass from Jake to Duzey and not only did Duzey outrun the osu Dbacks but KMM was gaining big time on Duzey. After watching KMM on those punt returns the guy has really good speed at the top end.

It appears we have better speed in the receiving corp than was expected. We need to take some more shots downfield.

Tevaun Smith is supposed to be pretty fast and we know Powell is fast.

Love to see KMM and Powell stacked to wide side run straight go routes and then split about 20 yards downfield making the opponent safety make a choice.

Need to back up the other teams safeties and corners to give more room for the run game and the short passes.

I think we take about the right amount of deep shots.

We have enough "speed". The problem is when we compare our "speed" to that of Oregon or Florida State or any number of other schools. But, speed is so much less a part of the "success" equation than the percentage people give it.

"Track" speed is wonderful, especially on the track. On the football field, "speed" without a LOT more of the other important attributes is worth, oh, not much.

The play call was a gem, and anyone who saw the more knowledgable talking heads this week shouldn't have been surprised by the success of the play. The actual calling of the play and its timeliness are the more pleasant surprises, not the speed of our personnel.

I was watching this play through binoculars and I thought the INT was at least 60% on Powell. I think your post is right on.
