The new rules in college football

I was watching College Football Live today on espn and they said that there were 2 new rules that passed today that will take place in the 2010-11 seasons.
The first rule was no messages on your eye black. I think that is just flat out stupid. I thought it was cool when players wrote there favorite bible versus on there eye black or when reggie bush put 619 on his.

The second one is that if a player taunts going into the end zone the Touchdown gets taken away plus a 15 yard penalty. I really dont see a problem with that.

thoughts?

Oh how mad will a coach be if his player gets called for taunting on an easy TD, negating the 7 points. I already feel bad for that first player that does this.

I saw that too. I think taking away a touchdown for taunting is too much. Mainly because I can see an official calling something in the grey area of taunting. I don't like taunting by players, but taking points off is extreme. Just make it a big penalty of yards.

I think changing the rules on eye block is good. Not all of the messages were from the bible. I have no problem with those.

i agree with you but I just didnt think they would take it away completely. I thought maybe they would just restrict somethings

As for the Hawkeyes I'm a little more concerned on the adjustments they will have to make on special teams with the new wedge rule. I wonder how picky officials will be when it comes to players being too close together.

The NCAA is the biggest group of morons in one place. I wish someone would seriously burn down their headquarters...okay, not really, but still.

What a joke. The NFL is the No Fun League, and now the NCAA is making it worse. Wow. I can totally see the refs screwing someone on a minor taunt and pulling a TD off the board in a tight game.

Starting in 2012-all forms of personal expression and individuallity will be erased. The use of helmet stickers, names on uniforms and colors on uniforms other than gray will be expressly forbidden, punishable by instant vaporization on the field of play. If a team looses enough players, said team must forfiet the game in question.

Resistance is futile.

We're not talking about excessive celebration, correct? If it's just taunting, I have no problem with that rule being enforced. You don't see that call very often in games anyway. And when you do, it's usually deserved.

So I like both changes.

What's wrong with taunting?

I don't like the taunting rule because it is a judgement call by the refs. Very few of them don't suck to start with. What will be the consistent understanding of what 'taunting' is??

Just to clarify: the taunting rule does not always apply. A hypothetical where it would: on Sash's pick 6, the TD would have been taken away had he high-stepped the last 10 yards, shook the ball, held it out to the defenders chasing him, etc. A dance in the endzone is just a 15 yard penalty. Only when the taunting happens while a player is on his way into the endzone will the TD not count. And I like that a lot. There's no place for that kind of garbage in college football.

It's unsportsmanlike. Act like you've been in that endzone before. :)

No, it's not. It's having fun; it's not a business, it's college kids running up and down a field giving everything they have. If they want to celebrate when they succeed, they should be able to.

College football isn't a business? Tell that to the NCAA and their 800 bazillion bowl games, and the BCS to boot.

Celebrating a big TD is no big deal. Holding the ball out behind you for the last 10 yards, high-stepping your way in, THAT is not having fun. That's just trying to humiliate your opponent, and wanting to draw attention to YOU.
