The National Duals Effect

A friend posed this question to me and I am interested in other oppinions:

So now that Big Tens are over, did Caels plan pay off? Did sitting it out help Penn State? Did going help the Hawks?

My thoughts are that while we have no idea if there is any correlation I think that going definately helped the Hawks for several reasons:

~Gave DSJ a chance to establish momentum against two big ten opponents
~G.G got a chance to drop down to 184, anyone whose ever wrestled knows that the first time down is hell and if his first time down was for Big Ten Quarterfinals, I think it would have made an impact
~It gave McD a chance to get revenge on Delgado and get confidence going into the postseason

And I think not going hurt PSU, I think that while they did win the team title (which is all that matters). They did not win going away like many thought. They had Alton, Wade, Megalaudis and Wright not wrestle to seed. They needed a late surge (won 15 of the last 17) to win the title on the last day, and they were in third on Saturday night. So I think that day one you could definately say they were flat and the hawks looked sharp.

Now whether any of that is due to National Duals is mere speculation, but I definately think there is correlation.

its hard to say i personally don't think it benefited us and we are lucky penn state didn't wrestle to see because it could of been ugly hawks have some work to do this next week an half

who knows what the effect was on us but psu did not wrestle well in big tens. heck they had a nc not make it to the finals.

Penn state wrestled extremely well in the last session. What did they win something like 14 in a row in the placement matches? Not to mention all of the bonus point wins they had. Check your statement CR.

they had a lot of guys not wrestle to their seed. if they wrestled as well as we've seen them wrestle it wouldn't have been a close tournament.

there I checked it for you.

I think they helped the hawks for the exact reasons pointed out in the original post. I do think PSU wrestled very good though. So they didn't wrestle to seeds, they took care of business when it mattered and we clearly did not. Tournaments are won in the conso brackets which PSU proved on Sunday.

That's usually the case, however in this situation the B1G tourney was won with a bzillion bonus points. As was pointed out elsewhere, Iowa still would've lost had all 6 finalists finished 1st!

So the question then becomes:Can Penn State repeat there performancr from last weekend? Is the depth of field conducive to morenbonus points from PSU or less? I think the hawks will once again place eight, which in oast years is a near lock for a team title but psu should also place eight and may bring all ten to our eight.
