Maybe after I have posted a couple hundred baseless rumors ...or "my top 5" lists people will have more respect for my opinion....cus Lord knows unless you make a lot of pointless posts on a message board..NEWBIE..you just haven't lived.....I watched BJ play...I'm hardly a NEWbie..my point was only the baseless rumors that flow..the in the know folks on here that have "contacts" ....that have been so right in the past....and now McCaffrey....nicely done BARTA..Nicely done..

First off, this hire doesn't need to be a "splash hire."
Last I checked the first game isn't until late fall. The guy who has been hired has that much time to begin to make his own splash, in the media, with his hires, possible recruiting progress and roster adjustments ect...
Second, to those condemning this coach already, I view your attitudes to be indicative of the cancer that has eroded this program to it's current state. It’s thinking like this that has done more to kill the program I love so much than any coach ever has. JMHO love it or leave it.

His responsibility was to hire the best coach available for the job. I don't see how everyone can bash the hire before he even coaches a game. Oh and Forbes would not have united the fanbase, 90% of Iowa fans have no idea who the hell Forbes is, all they would know is that we settled for a second assistant from Tennessee.

You make some great points- we had to take the best available- as i saw it there wasn't too much left available in the coaching pool. However, I can see and stick up for people who can bash this coach- for one this hire is so similar to Lick and we see how that has worked. 2, we expect so much more from the Iowa program (not necessarily from Barta) but the overall tradition of Iowa. We all feel it needed something more than another Mid major to turn this thing around. We can only base our opinions off of history, but it doesn't look good for the basketball program. I can speak for all true Hawkeye fans when I say we hope to hell this guy gets the job done and we will not bash him for that (if he can turn it around), but our initial reaction is disappointment- which each and every one is entitled to

I agree so completely with this post. I really am not sure Barta understands the opportunity that was in front of him. The opportunity was there to get a guy that could really rally the fan base but it was going to take emotional ties from the past, or the type of charisma and energy to take the fan base by the arms and shake us into submission. He repeated the same formula as three years ago. I hope it works out great, it certainly should, but there is going to be no immediate excitement boost from the general fan base. I almost feel like there is a fear of getting too large of a personality in the position...though I have no idea why.

You're right, there was no one person who was going to reunite this fan base, however, a better fit and a bigger name would have got the people more excited and came together a little more. The ONLY thing that will bring the people back together is WINS. You're right, it is unfortunate, but this is exactly how sports is, especially a team we all feel so passionate about.

yea blame the fans, but im gonna go with alford and lick u know the actual coaches who recruit and coach the game not the fans who sit (or use to sit in the stands) anyways if we had that big of affect on the program fran wouldnt be r coach
