The Music Scrimage Bowl

Meh, I'm a pretty fucking die-hard fan but there's not a chance in hell I would let my kid play in this game if he was as good as Jack Campbell. Say you get to the fourth or fifth practice and you see that this will be a repeat of the bowl game we had against LSU where we didn't cross the 50 - why would anyone on the defense who has draft prospects risk themselves for the game? It makes no sense. Not for this team, not in this circumstance. These guys have a finite number of hits they can take and there's no sense wasting them on this turd of a game.
It is choice to play or not, not his parents. How would you go about not letting him play? He is what, 22? I think anyone's kid would pretty much tell their parents this is my life and I am going to do what I want. I am sure parents would want to talk about possible outcomes, but it is still his/her decision.

Let's not forget the bodacious swag-bags the players will get..T-shirts, desk pens, assorted trinkets and a Chamber of Commerce calendar.

Cool.
Chip clips.

Chip clips and those plastic coin purses with the Music Shitty logo on them.

That’s reason enough to go right there.

Two words…

Jake, and Butt.

I don't get why people keep calling it an exhibition, the game counts on their record. It's a non conference game against a decent opponent where the winner gets a trophy.
Exhibition games are quite literally what they are if not part of the CFP. No effect on the regular season’s standings, neutered rosters where not everyone is playing…

Before he tore his ACL in the bowl game, he tore one his sophomore year as well. He was able to play in the NFL but tore an ACL again. He was still able to make a roster. Injuries are not the end of players careers like they use to be. Having 6 surgeries and having to rehab again was probably why he gave it up.

And there are thousands who were in similar situations and didn't get hurt, and made memories along the way.

Money matters, but money doesn't = happiness (at least once you meet basic needs, roughly around $70,000 per year).

The risk of a career-altering injury are very low. To some people, the ideas of team and teammates still matters a lot. Who are we to tell them they need to alter their priorities and values?

This is for real??

Well i've come to believe that the bowls are fundamentally chaning. The teams that show up bear little resemblence to the teams they were in October. THere are opt-outs for the draft, portal departures, injuries and even staff vacancies. Seems like a lot for the staff to work on. But everyone has the same weather I guess.

Fans are starting to realize - its not much more than an exhibition scrimmage sponsored by corporations
I think the attitude I take now is that if we win I'll be happy, but if Iowa loses you look at it as a learning experience for players who will be there in the spring. The bowl game really should be about the players who prepare for and play in the game. Hopefully it is a fun trip for them and a good memory. I do think playing on New Year's Eve right before the big playoff games is a great time slot....there will be a lot of eyeballs. It will also be interesting to see if either of the QBs can function after not playing at all this past fall.

Iowa had a good season this year. It could have been great but was not because of the morbidly putrid offense.

When you’re talking eight figures guaranteed all bets are off. That’s truly generational money that will impact your great grandchildren if you invest it right.

I don't begrudge anyone for thinking that way; but I don't think everyone does or has to think that way.

Maybe those great grandchildren are better off making it on their own, as opposed to inheriting a bunch of wealth?

Absolutely. The biggest risk isn't that you get hurt and never play again, it's that you get hurt and slide from 15th to 150th in the draft because the teams are uncertain about your status. Then, if you don't get that second contract you're fucked. Hell, if you get a good enough first contract and wisely invest it, you don't even need to think about the second contract.

But ask yourself this, Mr. Fry, wouldn't you rather play against Kentucky's backups in the Music City Bowl than retire from pro football when you're 28 with a portfolio that generates over a half a million bucks a year in interest and dividends?

Then every non conference game is a "exhibition game".

No, because you play with your full roster in non-con games. The instate and rivalry non-con games are materially better than the non-playoff bowls. I'd rather watch a game like Iowa-Iowa State or Clemson-South Carolina than these shit bowl games.

The Kentucky offense was in the 90s this season and that’s with Levis. Now, we are looking at a game with two qb’s that have never played, two of the most conservative offenses in the country and a pre-levis announcement o/u of 33. On top of it, these two had a pillow fight a year ago. This has to be the most boring bowl matchup in history and that’s saying something
