~ The most unproductive offense since.......

ESPN currently ranks the Iowa offense 61st in Offensive Efficiency out of 132 teams. I'm stunned at the lack of understanding of offense on this board. It is about EFFICIENCY, NOT YARDS PER GAME. Holy sweet baby Jesus, change your analysis and wake up

Agree. There are some games, depending on field position that a team gets during the game, can put up many points but may not have to drive the field a lot. The fact that points are coming out of possessions is what is important.

Correct, of course....It is yards per play, which hopefully translates into points per offensive possession. Nothing else matters, and one could argue that the only stat that matters is points per offensive possession, because that takes into account:

1. Red Zone efficiency
2. Turnovers

I would love to know where the Iowa offense ranks in points per possession.....

Iowa's offense ranks 45th in Offensive Efficiency on the Innovative Statistics website.

Yards per game is a totally meaningless statistic

Sorry to resurrect but it is appropriate. I did a search for my posts with the word offense in the caption - damn I had a lot of posts about offense over the years.

this is wrong on all counts. I'm stunned that you guys don't understand Offensive Efficiency. Jon Miller, shame on you....you are ignorant about how to measure a team's Offense. It is about EFFICIENCY. A team that runs a slow tempo offense is going to have fewer yards per game, because it runs fewer plays. But that also means the opponent runs fewer plays, if your team is possessing the ball. Start paying attention to yards per play, points per play and points per possession. That takes into account TEMPO. Your stats DO NOT

Good point. I appreciate that.

Now if only the rest of the world would start reporting those stats more readily so that low info guys like me can easily find it.
