~ The most unproductive offense since.......

I'd say the last time I saw an Iowa O that was this poor would be 2007. Prior to that..... I'm thinking 1970's.

Does anyone have the 1921-22 Iowa team's offensive stats? I'd be interested in comparing those stats.

we need at least 3 games to produce a true reflection of the suckitaional (made up word...u r welcome to use it) of this offense.

Sorry to resurrect but it is appropriate. I did a search for my posts with the word offense in the caption - damn I had a lot of posts about offense over the years.

I remember 2012 and 2012 was much much worse. We punted from the 32 yard line against Nebraska on 4th & 12. The funny thing is it actually seemed like a reasonable decision because our offense was so pathetic. Picking up 12 yards was the equivalent of winning the lottery. There is no way we beat tOSU with that offense (or a dozen other Iowa offenses). Our biggest problem is our rushing offense and OL, ironically.

They scored 184 and gave up 26 in 7 games. The year before was a terribly boring year as they score 76 and gave up way to many at 54.....if you take out the Cornell game.

I was thinking almost every game of every year for the past 6 or 7 years.

The exception is Ohio State. The Hawks frequently lined the TE's up together and shifted them together thoughtout that game. It worked. Against Wisconsin, never saw the TE's shift and lineup together once.

I'm still baffled by their so called offensive game plan against the badgers.

These numbers should improve some. Iowa has played the murders row part of the schedule. The last 2 oponents are at the bottom half of their schedule.

2012 was gawd awful. '99 @ Wisconsin and Michigan State were probably the worst I remember. When Dayne got the record that day, on SportsCenter Dan Patrick called us "hapless"

That offense in one of Hayden's last yeasr I think ran by Kyle McCann was pretty anemic. Didn't even seem like they could pass for 50yrds a game. It was bad.

I'm really stunned at the inaccuracy of this analysis. Jon Miller should know better. The only stat that matters in analyzing offense is OFFENSIVE EFFICIENCY. Iowa runs a ball control offense, meaning that they huddle on almost every play and they use the entire play clock, translating to fewer plays in the game. The stat that matters in YARDS PER OFFENSIVE PLAY. Iowa is doing very well in that stat, and is ranked in the top 40 in offensive efficiency according to the Massey Ratings.

Iowa currently ranks 39th in the country in "Offensive Power to Score", according to the Massey Ratings. Iowa's average yards per offensive play is 5.2, which puts us right in the middle of the Big Ten. Looking at yards per game is meaningless, since Iowa plays at a slower tempo than most teams. Offensive efficiency is the only stat that really matters. The Pomeroy ratings use offensive efficiency (points scored per possession) to rank offenses in college basketball. The same stat is the important one in college football.

You guys couldn't be more wrong about the Iowa offense. The problem this year is actually the DEFENSE, which is giving up 5.2 yards per play, one of the worst numbers in the Ferentz era.

ESPN currently ranks the Iowa offense 61st in Offensive Efficiency out of 132 teams. I'm stunned at the lack of understanding of offense on this board. It is about EFFICIENCY, NOT YARDS PER GAME. Holy sweet baby Jesus, change your analysis and wake up
