the more you have to like the guy.

Taken 3 teams to the NCAA's, 3 teams that had to win tourneys or win conferences

Assistant Coach at Major Programs

Up Tempo Style Offense and Defense

Active In Community and Charitable

Wanted to be in the Midwest

Recruiting ties in Midwest and East

Ivy League Educated

This appears to be destination job.
Assistant hirings will obviously be very important. Time to give this HAWKEYE our support.

Why like him initially? The melt down was much more fun to watch.

After he comes off as a great guy tomorrow at the PC im looking forward to the honeymoon period!

The more I read, the better he looks. I'm now firmly on board with this hire.

LOL

Kinda makes you wonder why there was a meltdown in the 1st place....ya know, considering that all of the people melting down knew nothing about this guy

His bio looks the same now as it did when I first looked at it.

Wait....he hugs his players. Whew. Okay, I'm on board now.

Maybe his wife will be able to get Hightower to give the Hawks a couple calls next year.

Seriously though, another mid-major hire out of left field but for some reason I think this one is going to unite Hawkeye Nation by returning the Hawks to the top of the Big Ten.

Over the past couple days I felt Steve Forbes seemed to be the best "fit" for where the program is currently. But in reading Coach McCaffery's bio, it reads quite similar in background to Forbes with the exception of the 10 years experience as a HC. I really like the fact he has top level recruiting at Notre Dame which means he knows the Chicago area and where to go look for talent.

I am sure he will need to rebuild some old relationships and develop some new ones but most of that will also fall on the assistants he brings on board.

I know he runs an up tempo style with a pressing defense but does anyone know what offense he prefers in the half court? Will he run a motion offense, on the ball screening offense, etc.?? How about at the defensive end, man-to-man, zone, matchup zone, a mixture??

BTW - I'm in for the first home game next year at Carver. Let's make it a "Be Bold - Wear Gold" Game and really show the program the support of Hawkeye Nation!!!

Edit: One additional point - I like the fact he seems to have turned down both St. John's and Seton Hall to see where the Iowa opportunity went. Tells me he WANTS to be at Iowa.

hopefully his wife won't get Iowa any technical fouls.

I heard that happpened to her somewhere but dont know any of the details.

THAT would fire up the crowd and get them to quit sitting on their hands. A show of hawk passion far greater than we saw out of our ex-coach.

Watched Siena play the last three years.

Excellent hire by Barta.

His teams play with outstanding pace and intensity.

Hawk fans SHOULD be pumped up.

Not sure why people are so upset.

Personally I think it will be fun watching Iowa run fastbreaks again. The first year might be a bit rough but I believe we might do fine next year...not NCAA fine next year. But I believe we will see new energy from the players simply because they will get to play BB again and BB will be fun for them again and for Iowa fans.

Even I gave Lickliter 2 years...
