The Jim Bain Fan Club Thread

The officiating in that game, particularly towards the end, was among the worst I've ever seen. Not long before the phantom foul, Kenny Arnold was driving for a layup and was absolutely hammered....no call. Had the foul been called (as it should have), and Kenny made the free throws, Iowa likely would have won.

I was going to mention this very same thing that Kenny Arnold got knocked into the first row at the baseline and no foul was called.

Iowa was ahead at the time and it was one of the worst no calls I have ever seen. I think this fact and the bain bad-call were what sent Lute over the edge.

Again, Lute left the B1g because of **** like this and the fact that he had Isaiah Thomas coming to Iowa until bob knight shows up steal him away.

It would be great if someone still had none of those T-shirts. I'd love to see a pic of it. I don't recall the game in question but I was already a fan and watching the games whenever I could. That was a long time ago.

Lute didn't leave Iowa because of calls like that. He left for a place that would be warmer and easier to recruit top talent to. He got that at Arizona. UCLA was down and a great coach could go into Arizona and clean up. That's what Lute thought and that's what he made happen.

lute also wanted a place where he and his wife wouldn't get hounded out in public.

Some of you should just let it go. There was a foul at the end of the game on that play, just not the one that got called. Man, I have a hard time believing someone would feel the need to dredge this up and put it on the message board 30 years later. No one on this board could possibly be a bigger Iowa fan than me, as Jon can attest. But, come o. Just give it a rest.

What a guy

Jon, didnt they keep him out of Iowa City for a few years after that ?
It's amazing how long his name has lived on. He was the first official that I ever knew by name...this goes back to my earliest memories of Iowa basketball. There were little dolls that were sold of Bain with a hangman's noose!

If I remember correctly, I believe he was banned at calling Iowa games after that. That was one of my first real Iowa Basketball memories & I have never forgot his names for all these years. The first players I remember were Steve Carfino, Boyle, Hansen, Stoakes & Payne & co. That's my earliest memories.

I remember that game well I happened to be watching it on the TVs at a department store. I think I may have been asked to leave.

Here is a pic of the perp. I remember the t-shirts too. That was one of the bigger hose jobs in history.

I could be wrong but I think he did some games in IC later on. But were concerned about his saftey for a while
