The Iowa Defense

Yeah, but they're only that good cuz our offense is ranked low or so I'm told.

That is some great company. Some people including me would like to see the hawk defense be a little more aggressive on pass blitz, and run gap blitz trying to make more negative plays. Those negative plays will make the other team punt more deeper in their own end of the field. It will also maybe eliminate some of those long 4th qtr drives by the opponent who has had the whole game to see what the Dee is doing,.

But bottom line the defense is great at keeping teams scores low.

Ironic how Iowa’s FB program just needs a middle of the road offense and they would elevate to a far better program and their BB program just needs to have a middle of the road defense to have a far better program yet both coaches struggle to produce either one.

I see no reason our defense shouldn't make it a goal to be the #1 defense in several categories next year.
The talent and experience will be there!!!!
Like everyone says, if our offense could shoot for a top 25-30 finish, we are talking a very exciting and memorable season.

I think it'd be a special season if our offense could finish top 50.

Phil Parker continues the excellence of his predecessor, and Norm's predecessor. A very good history of great D. The offense, not so much. History of underachieving. Hopefully headed in right direction, data says maybe so, we shall see.

I have my own conclusions drawn from the below data on Ferntz, Ferentz, & Davis LLP, but I'll keep that to myself so as not to inflame the homers.

I will say that if you think tossing the 2 non P5 teams is a good idea, they are playing teams with commensurate recruiting power, and definitely commensurate money, facilities, and resources. In other words you can't say they shouldn't be considered ahead of any P5 teams just because their SOS is lower. We as a "bigger" P5 team have 10 or 20 times more money than they do, and we don't have to bust out of the gate against teams that are almost guaranteed to beat us as they do when they play against P5 squads OOC. Well, except for Troy playing Nebraska. They fucking suck.

What this does say is that Clemson is just as legit as Alabama. They just haven't been as long.

Top one is sorted by win %, bottom one by SOS.

Any chance Nelson comes back? That to me hinges some of how our D will do next year. It'll sure help AJP do his thing out there.

I haven't seen or heard anything that he might leave. I haven't seen him listed in any mock drafts. I would expect him to be back next season.

Um, yes they are. Have you not watched the games? When Clemson had DeShaun, they were neck and neck with Alabama and won a title. Mr. Saban had to call an onside kick and catch Clemson off guard to beat them the year before that. Clemson's front 4 is just ridiculous. They can beat Bama this year because Bama's 3 sophomore linemen aren't great. Clemson's secondary isn't great, though. They can get away with it because the ACC totally sucks and they have such giant leads in most games that the other team is forced to pass and the QB ends up getting his ass handed to him by the front 4.

Dabo is probably the best coach in the country. The guy has balls the size of basketballs. He ran off the senior QB to start a freshman because he knows that is the only way he can beat teams like Bama and Georgia and he's prepping for runs the next two years. Look, I get that Iowa is statistically in the ball park of those teams, but the talent gulf between them and Iowa is just absurd. Clemson has like 6 AJ Epenesa level players in their 2 deep d-line and Venables would have a damned stroke if he tried to coach Iowa's defense.

Read my post again.

I said "What this does say is that Clemson is just as legit as Alabama."
I know. I was agreeing with you. Plz read my post again. Defensively, they are neck and neck. Only issue is Clemson had a mediocre QB last year. Any year Clemson has a stud QB, that game is basically going to come down to the last two drives.

Some of those SEC staffs are yuuuuuuge and coordinators at $1.5M +. Ohio State similar with the ex-heads as assistants. Come on too we all suspect some shady shit going on at these kinds of schools. Look at Tom Herman at Taxes. We can't say many would suspect the same of Kirk.
