The Iowa Defense

Ok, but you have to admit that "Um, yes they are. Have you not watched the games" sounds a whole lot like disagreeing.
It was more of a "no shit Sherlock" than disagreeing. Anyone who has watched the games knows Clemson is close. I don't need to see the stats. I had always pictured you as a knowledgeable football fan, so I was somewhat taken aback that you just now concluded that a team that has made 4 straight playoffs and beaten Bama once was close to Bama.

Look, I'm sorry, pal. It's just that everywhere I go down here it's all "OMG, Clemson is so good, blah blah blah" and it gets old as a Bama fan. And if we don't hire Dabo when Nick retires, I'll be legit scared.

I think it'd be a special season if our offense could finish top 50.

Absolutely true. It would have been true many of the last 14 years as well. A top 50 offense likely gives Iowa a 10 or more win season in half 9f 5he last 20 years. And I'd wager 3-4 division titles and a couple more B1G titles.

Braska has #27 and Purdue #24.
I think we should set our goals a little higher than top 50.

We were in the 100's last year, I believe 80's this year.... Top 50 would be a huge jump. Let's get top 50, then go from there. I agree, consistent top 25-35 should be a consistent goal.

Don’t be sorry. 1) It’s a sign of weakness, and B) That methadone fucks with people; you weren’t in your right mind. Look, I know you squidbillies in Kentucky like your hydros, but goddammit man...don’t drink on top of it. Are you aware of how much Tylenol is in that shit?

There was no surprise by me in my post. I would not, however, have guessed that Clemson’s 3 year average SOS was over 4 spots tougher than Alabama’s while only losing one more game (albeit that game was to Alabama) Going by Sagarin, Clemson is actually the better team by a slight margin.

Actually real humility can be a sign of real strength.

When I said "sorry" it was meant to read "sorry that you're a moron." Clemson's SOS has been boosted by playing Bama 3 times in the playoff and because they play two SEC teams in non-con pretty much every year.

Iowa faced 5 offenses that are pretty good this year.

Wisconsin - Their OLine was called for holding multiple times - tells me that they were getting beat frequently

Penn State - Iowa did fine and 1 bone headed TD with cover zero.

Purdue - gave up a lot of yards but they shut down their star receiver.

Illinois - shut out

Nebraska - This one got scary. But held them to 28

The goal is to win the NC. (At least top 20?? on both sides of the ball). Does that mean that winning the b10 (top 35?? On both sides of the ball) isn't significant or show Improvement and something to be proud of? No.

Gentlemen, we will chase perfection, and we will chase it relentlessly, knowing all the while we can never attain it. But along the way, we shall catch excellence.

I have my own conclusions drawn from the below data on Ferntz, Ferentz, & Davis LLP, but I'll keep that to myself so as not to inflame the homers.

I will say that if you think tossing the 2 non P5 teams is a good idea, they are playing teams with commensurate recruiting power, and definitely commensurate money, facilities, and resources. In other words you can't say they shouldn't be considered ahead of any P5 teams just because their SOS is lower. We as a "bigger" P5 team have 10 or 20 times more money than they do, and we don't have to bust out of the gate against teams that are almost guaranteed to beat us as they do when they play against P5 squads OOC. Well, except for Troy playing Nebraska. They fucking suck.

What this does say is that Clemson is just as legit as Alabama. They just haven't been as long.

Top one is sorted by win %, bottom one by SOS.

I read this twice and don't understand your point. not trying to be snarky here just that I don't understand what you're driving at.
