The Hawks will now surprise and surpass expectations

Losers plan to lose, winners plan to win. The Hawks are planning their strategy to beat the Spartans. No worries about the rest.

Look, after screwing the pooch against CMU I will be very happy with 6-6 and a bowl game this year.

as much as this contradicts my overall and usual stance (as well as going against my own signature)....for THIS year only - I agree 100%.

7 or more wins would be a MONSTER turn around from where we were a couple weeks ago.

What??!!! But we just beat Minnesota??!

it was a conference win that at the time many Hawks were thinking we may not win another game. It gave a little hope...especially the first half. A little hope and faith are one thing.....

but I don't see anyone saying that this win changes a mostly dissappointing outlook on the season....just that we are capable of winning a few more games....

I said it in the other thread but bears repeating. A win in East Lansing changes everything. Then I could see maybe getting back to the 7 or 8 win mark. Losing to MSU, while not literally, will set the ceiling at 6.

Just like Marv Cook said on the radio over lunch today. Minny was probably the worst 4-0 team in the country at that time.

Tongue firmly planted in cheek. It was good to win last week, but I swear some people on this board are watching a different team or don't know much about college football. Everyone knows MSU is overrated, but even as overrated as they are they're still a MUCH better team than we are right now (and most likely the rest of the year). Yeah, Maxwell isn't that good but his numbers are still better than JVB's and we've played absolutely dogsh*t teams, whereas they've played 3 top 25 teams. I'm sure Maxwell's number would be that much better had they had our garbage schedule. I like optimism, but not simply for the sake of optimism. The passing game is still horrendous. Like others mentioned, Weisman will look very average this week against a D with a pulse.

Sums it up exactly. It is hard to believe that our passing game is this bad when.
1. We have a 5th year senior QB who has a lot of experience.
2. A senior WR (former 4 star recruit) with plenty of experience, a junior TE (former 4 star recruit) w/ plenty of experience and a sophmore WR with some experience
3. A running game which has been very good in 4 of 5 games which should lead to a very efficient passing game
4. A crap schedule with some terrible defenses

As the resident "True Hawk fan of the year, 2011" let me say that I agree with this statement. I have said all along that MSU is overrated and I think this is the game that will determine if we contend for a division title or not. If we win this game then look out, momentum is a scary thing. If not, look out because things could and probably will go downhill. The offense is showing signs despite VanChristiansen's deficiencies and our defense is coming along nicely. Clock management is still an issue for some reason and I'm afraid it could cost us a game still this year. All in all, the future does look bright with all of the young talent on the squad - it's just nice to see them getting some much needed experience as our schedule gets tougher the next two years. Keep your heads up!

Ineffective as he has been, Vandy doesn't "kill" drives the way Jake could. He can still complete passes, and worm-burner throws are much less than Jake.

He has some tweaking to do, whereas Jake needed a LOT more than mere "tweaking".

Also, especially in 2007, we had a less-than-spectacular OL, and after the losses of Brodell and Moeaki, few receiving threats. Basically just DJK.

Young and Sims were banged up, D was solid enough, but not much (if any) better than this year's D.

Don't know that we can win at East Lansing, but I am confident we will pretty much be competitive in our remaining games and have a chance to win after halftime of each game. The exception would be Nebraska, but I'm not totally sold on them yet. Ditto NW and Purdue. PSU is PSU, never an easy win, but rarely an unwinnable game, either.

FIFY. Nothing against the post, but I'm pretty sure the only people that are that down on the team this year are the fans. I'm pretty sure the players see the season as 3-2 after 5 weeks with a great deal of time to improve. Hopefully they're still optimistic, because they should be.

Luckily the games are still played and not just determined by who looks better. While I agree with what your saying, the fact is that whether we're a good team or not, improvements are being made (albeit some positions need it much more than others) adn if somehow our passing game can rise up from the dead we have the potential to be a decent team.

The Big ten is pathetically weak so they have a shot of several more wins. Its not because they are good at all. Its because their opponetns stink too.

I am NOT drinking this cool-aid... Look, we beat the Goofers, so what? Wait and see how we play against some teams that are worth a darn! And I WILL point out that we have LOST two games, one against a team we should have run over! So NO, I am NOT going to get all giddy, not yet.

Like the bookies I knew a long time ago who would say "never bet against the pros after they get embarrassed" I think the hawks are going to take that lackluster performance against CMU and ISU for that matter to really improve and win some surprising games this year.

I think Greg Davis is coaching up the passing game and will find a set of pass plays to work for each opponent and practice those plays to greatly increase the pass game efficiency. I think the hawks hold form at home although it wont be easy and they win at Indiana and NW and surprise one of the Mich teams for an 8-4 record.

Several d-linemen are coming into their own. It looks like Alvis is dragging a leg somewhat but McMinn has done well as has Passat and Gaglione. Carl Davis and Bigach and the others are making plays.

If we hold at home, win at Indy, NW and one Mich school. How do we lose 2 more games to get to 8-4? If we win 6 more games...that leaves us only 1 loss vs the Mich schools and a 9-3 record. Just sayin.

Haven't seen anything that gives me confidence in the passing game being an actual threat...hopefully the bye week will progress into consistency.

Yeah I noticed my own math but didnt care to correct as I was trying to make an optimistic point.

BUMP BUMP

I am bumping my own thread to keep the lucky mojo going. Wow what a win against their tough defense and our passing game having issues.

But the defense played lights out and the special teams were great.

Bump but we gotta start throwing the ball downfield.

And there were a lot of posters in this thread who gave the hawks no chance, not a chance in hell to win this game, they should be banned for a week or made to go over to the clowns board.
