I think there is a lot of truth to this statement. However, I would add the fact that there are all sorts of different kinds of "good coaches". Some good coaches have strengths in game management. Some have strengths in offensive or defensive philosophies. Some have strengths in developing underrated players. Ferentz is a good football coach whether you choose to admit that of not. He could absolutely use some help with his clock management. However, he could also give quite the lecture on player development and offensive line philosophies. I am just saying there are different kinds of good coaches that's all.
 
I just don't see it the same way as the OP. I saw an inept team out there in all but a few games.

I think you mean to say some coaches are good AT some of these things. Just because a coach can manage the clock well doesn't make him a "good coach". Only when a coach possesses multiple good qualities does it make him a "good coach". Ferrets may be a good coach but when everyone and by everyone I mean even the birds over head and squirrels in the parking lot know what you are going to do next, it doesn't matter how good you are at clock management. Sorry for the run-on sentence.
 
I was hoping with the hiring of a new offensive coordinator that Ferentz would delegate the job to whomever he hired. I was hoping he realized he had problems with predictable play calling and severe lack of clock management.
He may be great at developing players, but head coaches should be wise enough to know their strengths and weaknesses.
BOTTOM LINE: I could beat Ferentz in Madden Football all day!
 
This is how I imagine the Madden Football conversation going...

Ferentz: What is that you are doing?
Me: Audible
Ferentz: Why?
Me: Well actually I am just putting a receiver in motion to see if you really are in man to man.
Ferentz: That isn't fair... well, can I call audibles?
Me: Well? Yes...
Ferentz: Why are you trying to score on me again with less than 2 minutes before the half when you are already up by 10?
Me: Why wouldn't I? 2 Minutes is a long time in football.
Ferentz: Wouldn't it be smarter to just take a knee and let the clock run out?
Me: Do you want another beer?
Ferentz: So with that TD I am trailing by 17... that ain't bad considering I am using this vanilla offense. We will be fine in the second half.
Me: I get the ball first in the second half
Ferentz: Why do you always get the ball first in the second half?
Me: Do you want another beer?

So close to a window dressing record, basically. No matter how many games the Hawks won, they'd still be bad.

Can't get ANY pressure on the quarterback (two years running now), have trouble keeping pressure off the quarterback, no real playmakers on either side of the ball. Offensively, there's absolutely nobody who's capable of taking it to the house from anywhere on the field. About sum it up?

Re-watched the Iowa - Indiana game last night on the BTN. The Hawks were not good. 2 offensive touchdowns in that game. That's offensive. It's best they didn't qualify for a bowl this year, for several reasons.

You can't make rocks be gold regardless how many times you spin the rocks over to the other side.

Iowa wasn't a good team. Thankfully a number of teams were almost as bad as Iowa was.
