The Good News

I think our suspended players will come in fired up against ISU. We've shown up a bit lethargic in the past coming into this game. ISU is no gimme this year, like most years. It would be nice to see these linemen take out their frustrations on the Ronald McDonald crew.

I'd be nice if they had some game experience though. There is no buffer game this year from the first game to the Iowa State game.

yeah, I see it as a disadvantage having this many "starters" out for game 1 - it will be a lot like game 1 when they face ISU. But, it should help improve depth.

The bad news is Northern Illinois isn't some chump. If their defense is as stout as many have claimed, we might lose this one. Either way, I imagine there will be a lot of complaints about BF's play calling

What's the over/under on the number of times the announcers mention we have four starters out on suspension.

Methinks it'll be directly proportional to the margin we're losing by, if we're losing.

As long as Fant, Hockenson, Stanley, and Easley stay off both mopeds and Busch lattes I think this will go okay.

Their defense should be stout, but their offense was pretty suspect last season. If it comes down to a slobberknocker, Iowa should have the edge.

It's never a good thing to have 2 experienced DTs out when you're replacing 3 senior starting linebackers and an all-american corner. I don't think anyone's gonna win this game by much.... not to mention missing 2 starting OTs and replacing an NFL center. Oh yeah, what about that Wadley guy?

From 1983-1986 we opened up the season with the clones. Iowa State probably wishes they had opened up with someone else. Here's the scores from those games, all Hawkeye wins.

1983 51-10
1984 59-21
1985 57-3
1986 43-7

Aggregate point total 210-41.
The good ole days.

Correction. The 1985 game was in week 3. But you get the point. BTW, after that 1985 win we assumed the #1 ranking in the next poll and kept it for five weeks.

Good stuff. Hayden Fry and his offense could score some points. They always took care of business in the non-conference.

Yep, mark me down in the concerned column. Iowa has been slow out of the gate for years, and there is plenty of evidence that LB us the backbone of the defensive strategy. Down essentially 3 linemen from last year for game one....I don't like it.
