The Fran Conundrum

Lol, I am old enough to remember as a small child the milkman coming by. Now what I don’t remember is ever seeing a large block of ice in the old iceboxes to keep food cold. I do also remember living in rural Iowa as a young child and having to share telephone lines with a neighbor or two. Black and a white TVs.
My small town had a door to door diaper service and a milk man

Like Matt Gatens? I'm guessing you don't know the details of Lickliter's demise. No. You're wrong about Lickliter "cleaning house".

I assume he's trolling. His two main takes are "for us to be good, Cook needs to be our 8th best player", and "Lick was good and needed more time".

You do realize that Cook and Pemsl can only score about 95 percent of the time from around like five feet around the basket? Two guys only few inches taller than Jok and Dailey and they can only score at the bottom of the paint . If that’s there skill set they need to be about 3 inches taller . You know what ? Nevermind . Doesn’t matter about their skills . We are having a great season

I wasn’t aware Matt Gatens didn’t stay on . Where did he go? Marion ? I wasn’t talking about Gatens
He went to Barta's office and told him what was going on and that he was gone as were others, if Lick was still coaching the 4th year. That's where he went. You're obviously clueless, so best run along.

It’s all over. Thanks for a couple decent seasons Fran, but it’s time for a fresh start.

I really wanted the fast paced game so I wanted Fran to stay. But right now the fast paced game makes me want to puke. We need a reallg good player to commit soon or I'll be all for Fran being gone at the end of the year. I think maybe 6 conference wins should be the minimum to keep him for one more year.

Did anyone else see Fran’s pregame interview? He gave a forced looking smile at the end, but you could tell underneath it he was very stressed/nervous. I’m sure he’s feeling the heat already and rightfully so. At the end of the day he knew what profession he chose. When you screw up this bad there is a chance you aren’t allowed the opportunity to fix it.

There are very few jobs in the world, where if you screw up, your boss pays you 10 million to go away.
(40 million if you coach a different revenue sport)

If anyone in here thinks Fran is going somewhere you dont understand Barta. Embrace the crappy year and hope for the best as there is little a forum will do. Bill Krause has passed and I dont think Kevin has the same pull from a donation standpoint There is no lineage of a coaching tree coming from the Iowa program. Starting over once again, its likely down the same road with different players. No magic about to appear in Iowa City.

You're right. Screwing up and having a bad team that finishes 9th in conference is one thing. You should get a chance to fix that. If you fill a roster full kids that didn't really pan out, you should maybe get a chance to fix it. When your players have a few bad games, lose focus, and fall apart, you should get a chance to fix it. But when you put together a roster who isn't very good AND they don't even put forth any effort, causing you to finish in the basement of your conference, you shouldn't get a chance to fix it.

If these kids were trying their asses off and just couldn't get it done, I would want to see if Fran could improve the talent. But there is no defending the lack of effort from this team.

Enough empty seats and change would happen.
