the farther down the list we go the more

Yeah besides that one bad season, holy crap his resume is impressive. And he can recruit. I would be all for Mr Lavin to be our coach. Somethin tells me he would add some flair, get the fan base excited, maybe some midnight madness! Anything t oget the dang fans going again would be nice.

I mentioned and posted his resume 2 or 3 days ago and was blown up by this board. Lavin IMO would be a great addition to Iowa and no doubt would have Iowa back on the map. He not only can recruit the dude can flat out coach..

Also keep in mind the Pac-10 was pretty stacked during his tenure, most notably with Arizona and Stanford.

I think I missed the post (thread). Just as the people that keep getting mentioned, why not take a stab at Lavin, just makes some sort of sense. Doesn't hurt

God, I never thought I would say this, but given the recent snippets that have leaked in I would be for Lavin now too. Oh, my poor Hawkeyes . . .

Agree. Especially when I'm hearing some of the names Barta is locked on to (Jim Boylen @ Utah, Greg Marshall @ WSU). This would be a much easier sell to the fans and has experience at recruiting at a high level. Boylen @ Utah is very disappointing but I feel like Barta is going strictly down the "mid-major" road with this hire because he feels he has a better chance with them. He is afraid of rejection from "big name" coaches and won't go that route. Hope he realizes that is this hire fails...HE fails too and is most likely gone.

You know you are just talking out of your behind when you say this stuff. What seems more logical: (1) Barta is afraid of rejection (as if he is some pimply 15 year old boy trying to find a date) and therefore refuses to contact "Big Names;" or (2) Those "Big Names" don't want to leave their successful proven Power Conference teams to try revive a middle of the road Big 10 program that has not been relevant (other than 1 year) in the last 12 years.

Barta needs to find a coach who will be successful here at Iowa. The coach's success at another school is useful information, but a record at another school alone doesn't tell an accurate picture. Barta's job is to learn all that other information, that can't be discerned from a paper record and decide who is most likely to win here at Iowa.

This thread. The Thread started off positive until Jon Miller said this: Don't you wonder why he has been out of the game so long?

Re: Who Dick Vatale thinks Iowa should take..
I will say this Lavin is a much better choice then Forbes/Barbee combined.

Throw-up over this Drake-Trust me you can't. Lavin can flat out coach and recruit. He would be a great addition..
Steve Lavin (145-78)
1996–97 UCLA Elite Eight
1997–98 UCLA Sweet Sixteen
1998–99 UCLA Round of 64
1999–00 UCLA Sweet Sixteen
2000–01 UCLA Sweet Sixteen
2001–02 UCLA Sweet Sixteen
2002–03 UCLA None

Lavin's coaching career began in 1988 when he was hired as an assistant by legendary Big Ten Purdue head coach Gene Keady. After three years of picking up valuable experience on the Boilermaker’s staff, Lavin was offered an opportunity to come back west when UCLA head coach Jim Harrick hired him as a Bruin assistant in 1991. Lavin was an assistant coach on the Bruins 1995 National Championship team that finished with a 32-1 record.

Lavin’s record in the first and second rounds of the NCAA tournament is 10-1. Lavin’s winning percentage (90.9%) in the first two rounds, is second only to Dean Smith in NCAA Tournament history.

Iowa needs a hire like this. He is proven to be successful. I'm tired of the experiments.. If we can't get someone like Pearl, Dixon, Wright.

I want Lavin... No question!!!

Do you honestly think that if you had a wife that hot that she would be happy in Iowa. I love Iowa and I think it is a great place to raise a family but there is no way in hell a women like that would be happy here.

Everyone says we need opposite of lickliter, he's outgoing, not quiet big talker, recruiter, and not from a midmajor. Only thing IDK is he uptempo coach? I think he is, somebody correct me if i'm wrong. Seems like to me is the complete opposite of Lick.

Yeah you are probably right about that. Lavin is probably a better fit for DePaul (Chicago) or St. John's (New York City). But we can always dream! :)

I just heard Vitale on Cotler and Garmen's show and Vitale said he knows he's interested, he works with him and isn't just making it up and probably just went on Out of Bounds show to campaign for his friend.

Wrong, Lavin is NOT working for any team right now...

So only ugly women live in Iowa????

supposedly he has told several people that he is very interested, I assume he already mentioned this to his wife.. and he would be half way between NY and LA perfect for an actress....

You are right, I just saw three models hanging out at the Vine for lunch.

If I recall correctly Lavin did one of Iowa's last games this year and made a point of noting that Lick was on the hot seat. He made a couple more comments that struck me as having an unusual interest in the Iowa coaching situation. It certainly wasn't the usual coaching fraternity mantra of "Fans just need to patient and give him more time." Wish I had made notes on exactly what he said. Anyone else recall that?
