the farther down the list we go the more

I think we should really consider Steve Lavin, he is interested and has major success at a big time program and can recruit. I don't get why would not at least interview him.. especially in light of the names that are now going around....

I totally agree, he's the only NAME out there, and guy who has expierence at major college. I'll take 6 NCAA tourny's out of what like 7 years, with 5 sweet 16's and a #1 recruiting class. We're going to pass on that for an assistant or the next flavor of the day mid major???? Vitale says he's interested too.

I have said from day one...you give Pearl a blank check. When he turns you down then immediately offer Lavin the same.

I agree. He will have an impact on the fan base. All bball fans know who he is, high school players watch ESPN and know who he is, and he has won at a major school.

He's been out of coaching for some time. There must be a reason.

I am tired of the "he's been out for awhile must be a reason" thing. DOES THAT MATTER if he can help us recruit and win bball games. (unless he murdered someone - then don't hire him):)

Only if we can guarantee that "Mrs. Steve Lavin" (actress Mary Ann Jarou) will be front row center at each game.

Agree. Especially when I'm hearing some of the names Barta is locked on to (Jim Boylen @ Utah, Greg Marshall @ WSU). This would be a much easier sell to the fans and has experience at recruiting at a high level. Boylen @ Utah is very disappointing but I feel like Barta is going strictly down the "mid-major" road with this hire because he feels he has a better chance with them. He is afraid of rejection from "big name" coaches and won't go that route. Hope he realizes that is this hire fails...HE fails too and is most likely gone.

I don't know that there is a reason other than he had a losing season, UCLA booted him, and ESPN/ABC signed him to a long deal almost immediately. I believe it was NC State that offered him their gig 3-4 years ago and he chose to remain broadcasting and, I believe, signed an extension for like 6 years. The guy does have a pretty impressive resume.

Yeah besides that one bad season, holy crap his resume is impressive. And he can recruit. I would be all for Mr Lavin to be our coach. Somethin tells me he would add some flair, get the fan base excited, maybe some midnight madness! Anything t oget the dang fans going again would be nice.

Why don't we interview Tark, Huggy Bear, Sampson, and Floyd while we are at it.

NOt sure what you mean by that. He is and was not dirty and knows hoops and Iowa History and actually wants the job... one losing season in 7 and big ten ties.. Do some research on him before to put him in with those guys.
