The fact of the matter is....

A bunch of Participation Trophy Losers whining like little girls because I'm not championing mediocrity like the rest of you. I'm so sorry that my opinions anger you and somehow diminish the shine of your participation trophies. Please accept my humble apologies.

I think you are confusing us for players, coaches, or someone associated with the program in any way. We are fans. We aren't doing the competing here. You freaking out saying you demand more over something you have no control over doesn't make you more competitive. It makes you sound like a douche.

You don't have to like it. Most losers don't.

if we don't compete for a conference title in 10 years, he deserves some heat????????? Wow. I would love to come work for you earning a 7 figure salary! Got any openings for a hot head with marginal results? I'd settle for a 5 year contract in exchange for mediocrity.

Did you expect to compete for the title this year? If not, what's with sudden outburst?

This year has gone about as expected, some great wins and some head scratching losses. If you don't think the future is looking bright, then that is something we could debate, however I think you're in the minority with that opinion.

I'd need to know more about your personal and professional achievements before determining if any apology is necessary. If you've been killing it since Junior High, I guess I can understand. If not, random anonymous Internet poster doesn't owe apologies....

Wanting something real bad and stating such on a message board doesn't make one a winner. Calling others losers, doesnt exactly exude excellence.

Now, if you're a pillar of your community, a captain of industry, an executive who still finds time to donate and serve meals to the downtrodden, and has excelled at competition, all while coaching for 2.5 children's soccer and bball teams and caring for your model/scientist wives' older parents, I guess I can understand your sentiment.

If not, keyboards are fun I guess.

The definition of competitive is how mad you get when the team you root for loses.

How much you want to bet me he is all of those? Come on. What's your bet?

:D

Every team "challenges" for the BIG title at the start of every season. It doesn't take 7 years to win a conference title. Anyone can make the NIT in year 7. We've seen Fran's mountain (rd 2 blow out) and now we are back in the valley with an NIT bid (maybe).

Tell that to Northwestern. Since joining the Big 10 in 1953 they have made the NIT exactly 7 times and have NEVER made the NCAA. It took Northwestern until year 29 to make the NIT the first time. So to counter your point.... no, not anyone can make the NIT in year 7.

Northwestern has been an embarrassment to college basketball. What's your point? Besides "Iowa: the new Northwestern!"

No. You said "Anyone can make the NIT in year 7." Northwestern would be a part of "Anyone". I offered a counterexample. If you want to put quantifiers on your statement, don't leave it wide open.

I don't keep track of Nit bids. Guilty as charged. Too many losers to worry about there. It's nice to know that someone keeps up on them.
Participation Trophy Tournaments.

I would not have ever given a football coach a 10 year contract. Much less 2 of them.
I would have never hired Lickliter.
I'm already doing better than Barta and YOU. I'm looking for GREAT coach. You can keep swooning over 2nd rd blowout losses. You're a loser and it's all you've ever known. You're right where you want to be. Mr. Participation Trophy.

Conventional wisdom at the time was to hire Lickliter. He had just won National Coach of the Year and had taken Butler to the Sweet 16. At the time, who knew that Brad Stevens was the brains behind Butler's success?

No. The definition of competitive is how hard you compete no matter what the competition, be it basketball or tiddly winks.

I'm still a Lakers fan. I became a Lakers fan in the late 1960s. I still root for them, but I don't get mad at all when they lose. I'm a Cubs fan. I have been since the mid 1960s. I still root for them, but I don't get mad at all when they lose. I can't control anything about the Lakers or the Cubs or the Hawks. But I can very much control what I do and how I react. My competitiveness isn't linked to how my teams do.

Edit: Although, Bob Knight used to define a competitor as a guy who finished first, third and fifteenth in a ******* off contest.

Everyone in basketball circles knew Stephens was the guy on that staff.
