I think that this has been touched on before, but why does Kinnick play rock music while the band sits idle? I had always preferred the band/drum cadence to generic rock music as I think that has more of a generic NFL feel. Anyone know the logic behind this?




If not, conspiracy theories welcome..
 






I'm disappointed...I was all excited b/c I thought this thread was going to be about "The Band" - as in the band named "The Band". Obviously I was mistaken.
 


The Band, one of the best rock bands in history. The Band included Rich Danko, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel & Robbie Robertson.

Bob Dylan recruited them as his backup band for his 1965-66 world tour, hence the name. As the Hawks they helped effect Dylan’s transformation from an acoustic folkie to an electric rock and roller.

The Band made some of the best albums of the late '60's & early '70's. Their first two albums, Music from Big Pink & The Band, were ground breaking. The albums contained an incisive mix of the history, folklore and myth that defined our collective understanding of America.

Oh, this thread is about the Hawkeye Marching Band! Never mind.

ok, "The Weight" and "Up on Cripple Creek" are great songs

no theories here? This always annoys me at the games. Does it ruin the atmosphere? No, but it seems to lose some collegiate appeal
 


I may be part of the minority when I say this, but IMO I get enough of the band before the game and at halftime. Don't know why, but just never been a marching band guy.
 


I love it on big plays when the band plays the drums really loud and really fast. Really gets me pumped, but it might only be on homecoming with all the extra drummers hanging out on the sideline

I'm with you here. The entrance before the game with AC/DC and Metallica get me a lot more jacked up than the marching band could.
 


I think the band is part of the appeal of college football. ****** Ohio, Hail to the Victors, etc. It's iconic. I agree that Back in Black/Enter Sandman get me more pumped right before the game.

But I can still recall how the crowd came to life against Indiana in '09 when the band played Thriller (with their own choreography). Kinnick was pretty dead (after a pretty lackluster first half) until the band became "undead" in the spirit of Halloween.

That got the crowd back into the game in the second half. The Hawks might have been getting booed out of the stadium if it weren't for getting jacked up at halftime, because Stanzi's 3rd quarter was miserable.
 








I would much rather hear rock music than the same six songs all game, every Saturday -- of every home game -- for the past six years ...

LOL at the fact that S cript is blocked out by HN's filters. I've run into this before and can't get over it. I know the meaning of most "bad words" and slang and for the life of me can't figure out why this one is blocked. Does anyone know why s cript would be blocked? End of rant, return to discussion of the band.

Yes, but you also get the same six rock/pop songs over the loudspeaker all year long. Granted, there's probably no radio station outside of the stadium that plays both "It's a Long Way to the Top" (AC/DC) and "I've Got a Feeling" (Black Eyed Peas), but you can get those elsewhere. Anybody remember when the band used to break up and go play the striptease in a bunch of different sections? That felt much more like college football than listening to "Shorty Fire Burning" (Sean Kingston) three times while the marching band sits quietly.

I'm the same way. That said I love drumline and I could listen to that all day. If they made the Isiserettes the ISU band I'd be satisfied if they never played any piped in music.
