The B1G Speaks

So what I dont get about this whole damn thing is "wear masks?" So if everyone is required wear masks at games and its proven that masks are key....what's the damn big deal? Either masks work or they dont....right?

Yup. I’d bet Tater is a good ol’ boy. Growing up probably drove an old Ford pickup with a gun rack across the rear winder.

Nah, there are two distinct white phenotypes among those who have deep family heritage in the Deep South that are directly traceable to social classes in England, Ireland and Scotland. That guy is clearly of the landed gentry class. I know absolutely nothing about this guy, but just from looking at his grainy Twitter picture I would bet money that he went to a southern college and was in a fraternity. You can spot the phenotype from a mile away. There's just a certain look about them.

Actually Iowa wasn't one of the few States it was the only State that had seasons this summer, just like every other year since Iowa is the ONLY STATE that has their seasons in the summer. And there were just a handful of teams that had their seasons affected. The VAST MAJORITY did not. Did you hear of any deaths or hospitalizations of any kind from any of the hundreds of teams that played between softball and baseball? It would have been front page news! At least get your facts straight. The lab rats must have just been really lucky.

But I do think by all means the teams from the nursing homes should not have a season this year.

My apologies for misquoting... I said "few" because I was unaware whether there were other states that played in the summer so I went with "few" to be safe. So sorry if I ruffled your feathers. And your absolutely right that there weren't any kids that died or were hospitalized that we know of, so another win for you. However, from a competitive standpoint there was an impact, because as I stated some of the top ranked teams were forced into shutting down early.

But lets talk about those lucky lab rats. You don't find it ironic that immediately after the boys state basketball tournament concluded that the IHSAA shutdown spring sports? Do you also realize that all spring sports were cancelled as schools finished out the school year online while cases climbed. Then miraculously as those cases continued to grow they decide to move forward with baseball and softball, all the while other club sports who are also getting their information from other high ranking medical professionals are cancelling summer events statewide.

As I said I'm not one that believes everything should be shut down and we should all be locked in our home. For the kids that got a season I'm thrilled, because as a varsity soccer coach, club coach, parent, and avid sports fan, I saw first hand the disappointment and heartache the cancellation of sports caused in the spring. I firmly believe the decision to play baseball/softball involved a great deal of risk and the higher ups needed to complete the season to even begin to justify a high school football season. But lets not forget that other highly educated individuals were consulted for other sports and decided that the risk outweighed the reward.

So while it's fantastic that the season was successful, the mere fact that school's are still do everything in their power to keep learning in the classroom and not having to return to online learning tells me that the state rolled the dice and took a risk.

I find it commendable that those folks would try and do what they are. But it seems like a pretty futile waste of time.

If the SEC, Big 12 and ACC are really going to play then the B1G absolutely needs to play. Not having a season will have dire consequences across the board for all B1G schools.

If those three conferences play and the B1G doesn’t the conference’s reputation and ability to recruit top athletes to ALL fall sports will take a huge hit that will be felt for years. The B1G could well become the MAC.

I feel like they have a 7-10 day window to eat crow and change their mind. There's like a 5% chance of that happening, but if they are going to back pedal now is the time to do it.

I have been thinking about this a lot. Strictly football, if they do not play for a year, how far is the drop off from a competitive standpoint will the B1G be compared to the other 3 conferences if they do not play? Saying it will turn into the MAC is a little extreme, but the gap between the B!G and the Southern schools gets a whole lot bigger.

OK4P and many others were predicting this anyway. I just thought it would be 2025 and not 2022.:)

I hate to say it, but the B1G and Pac 10 are basically already just MAC+ and WAC+. After success in the first year of the playoff regime, which saw Oregon beat FSU and the Big Ten's own Ohio State beat Bama and Oregon, the B1G, Pac, Big 8 have a combined record of 0-8 in the playoffs. 0-9 if you want to add Notre Dame as a proxy for football outside of the southeast. That's a 5 year run. OSU is the only Midwestern team that can sometimes play at that elite level. The Big Ten has been reduced to a joke.

Someone is going to look like an assclown. If the SEC starts and only makes it like 2 weeks before they shut down, they're gonna look stupid and the B1G and Pac can go around patting themselves on the back. If the SEC is able to get a full or mostly full season in and put on its planned December title game and maybe a bowl tie-in with Clemson or something, the Big Ten is going to look like the biggest group of assclowns in the history of mankind.

The gap is pretty damned big already at the top, but the shit teams in the SEC are pretty bad. The thing that will somewhat save the Big Ten is the scholarship limits. Those spread talent around a little bit. One year of no B1G football has the potential to really crater OSU's southern and Texas recruiting over a 5 year period, though. That lack of exposure is gonna be bad for OSU.

Lol. His son isn’t a minor. He doesn’t get to “let” him play football.

So are you saying he doesn’t have any influence at all? Tell me how this works, you have no input whatsoever as a parent? I got the utmost respect for you, man, but I am calling bullshit on that.

So how do you think it plays out?
