The 5 Sinkingest Ships In Sports

I could understand this much better if we were to lose to Iowa State every other year, as that is a barometer of how low your program is, but...hey, wait a minute, we have lost to Iowa State every other year for the past 4 years.

Ok...I'm going on record, the game in Ames this year may be the most important of the Ferentz era. If anything can move the "loyalty sentiment" away from the Captain Kirk, well...it's losing year after year to one of the worst historical football programs in college football. It's your cross state rival KF...you should care.

I agree to a large extent. Iowa will look bad but win the first game (like they always do) But then this ISU game on the road is the lynch pin. If they lose that how many empty seats will there be in Kinnick the next home game(s)?... I argue they have to not only win it but look good doing so. They really gotta play well early next year cause if they don't and if they lose fan support early in the year it could just crater the program and even as a fan that wants to see positive change (new coaching staff) I sure don't want it to be at that expense.

The threshold for what a sinking ship is has really gotten lower if a team that's been to two January bowl games in a row is one. A disappointing team sure; a sinking ship not so much.
Why do people still talk as if a "January bowl game" necessarily means something? There are now several crappy bowls that take place in January, and have been for a while.

that is troubling. been a pretty big defender of KF over the years, but I will admit, the losses to ISU, the losses to teams we had a sizable lead (and then proceeded to go ultra conservative, only to get beat), and struggling mightily against over inferior teams, especially in the last 3-4 years, have me very concerned.

With many others, outside the fanbase, echoing many of the concerns posted here, I will echo WinOneThisCentury, KF needs to beat the teams we should, Beat ISU for God's Sake, and win any game with a 10+ point lead. THIS Year.

Look, I still consider a 8+ win season pretty decent, depending on the schedule (I concede last year needed 9 to be considered "good" given the schedule). But you can't need miracles to beat Ball State, pisss ISU-MD-nebby games down your leg, and get absolutely buried in your bowl game ! (Though I do think TN was much better than their record and was an awful matchup, we didn't look prepared, and that what was hard to watch)

I'm still excited and will always be hopeful for the new season, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't concerned.

Damnit.

Go Hawks.

It's no big news that our football program has been struggling bit to put us on that list is a bit harsh. I can think of a few programs that should be on this list way ahead of Iowa. That's just my opinion. Lol

I think the media considers all aspects from the outside looking in. From the outside:
Great stadium and new top tier practice facility
Great fan base
Top 10 salary
several 10 win seasons from which to build on in the early years
Unquestioned support from his AD

This should bring more than .500 football.

The fact that we're playing in January with a 7-5 record indicates our ship isn't the only thing sinking.

If this upcoming season is bad it's not difficult to imagine Barta pounding on Kirk's door..... "Open the damn door, for Godsakes!!!!!" Sounds heard coming from fan base....."Terrain ahead pull up, pull up!!!" Scratching sound and vibrations heard....... What was that? The wing scraping a mountain top? No, CJ's Dad threatening to pull his son from the team. Damn those mountains are getting close lets hope it's not too late for KF to pull up (start winning or resign) and that he doesn't just sit back in the captain's seat and hold the door lock switch (exuberant contract) all the way to the bitter end.

i hope that analogy is not offensive to any of you as that was truly a terrible and tragic event. I just use the comparison to make a point and as ALWAYS I wish nothing but the best for the coaches, players, and fans. I hope the program starts to excel under CJ but I have to admit I am mildly skeptical........ but hopeful.

Do you know the difference between sinking and floating?

The program might not be going at several knots but it's still afloat.

The Fact is the program is sadly is sinking and anyone who can't see that IMO is blind or just holding onto false hope.. Iowa is 34-30 the last 5 years and since Greg Davis arrived Iowa is 19-19. I think Sinking describes exactly what we are seeing at Iowa - gradually decrease or decline in value, amount, quality, or intensity

I have a lot of concerns about the Iowa football program and the coaching staff; however, to give any credibility to some blogger who can say whatever is not something that I am going to do. Mostly, this thread is a re hash of what we have been hearing from many posters for the last couple of years. I am not saying there is no truth to some of the concerns, but I am growing a bit tired of the same ol' same ol.' Sorry, but that is where I am at this point.

KOK left before he had to use a life vest and tread water.

It's a given that a sinking ship will eventually be sunk. Is it really a given that Iowa football will be sunk? People thought that two years ago and we had a decent 8-4 regular season regular and finished strong in the B1G.

But its rudder is damaged for sure and I hope Captain Kirk is willing to go down with it should it eventually sink.

Really? You are treating this article like it is some serious assessment. It is just a low-rate writer trolling for page clicks. And you just gave him a bunch. Dig into his background and you will probably find some anti-Iowa baggage. Or he just knows a fan base that can't resist focusing on bad news.

Please Ponder that thought for one second.. :) You honestly think any coach would jump off at 4 Mil a year..
