I am disappointed in the outcome of the game, but to say you won't miss the leagues leading scorer is a bit of a stretch. I believe without him we wouldn't have even been in the position we were in to be considered a bubble team. Yes, his defense was questionable at times. Yes he lacked explosiveness going toward the rim, but as a couple of posters have pointed out his presence forced other teams to double team him and focus on him which opened up shots for some of his team mates.

I am glad he wore the Iowa uniform and he was apart of the Iowa program. I hope he makes it in the NBA (no defense league) as that would add a feather to Frans cap and help future recruiting.

I think some are being a bit hard on him and are forgetting all the good he did for this team. Could say the same thing about some of the comments on Baer also.
I would suggest stepping away from the computer for a day before making comments after a tough loss. I understand it as it just seems like when we begin to believe in a team they wet the bed and let us down. However that's no reason to attack Joc or any other player.

In two years we will know the truth about Fran and whether this is a dead end street we have been traveling on. Until then I will hope for the best.

Agreed. While Jok's lack of effort on defense was always something that bugged me. I think folks thinking he won't be missed are underestimating how much he helped other players by drawing so much attention, even when not scoring a ton.

You will always miss a pure scorer/shooter, especially a league leading one. When your team loses a player that provided 20+ points a game and was shooting 90% from the freethrow line, you gotta find something to mitigate it, either on the offense or defense side, the best would be both

Everything will come down to 3-4 of the young players making a jump in development. I still think Moss is the key piece for next year, if he can make a decent Frosh-Sophmore improvement, he can provide a huge catalyst, he has a great tool set and the measurables, just needs the Bball IQ increase. Cook, Pemsl, Kriener, all need to get stronger and improve defensive awareness and position.

I feel like Jbo and Baer will both improve and be leaders, but for this team to make that 3-4 win improvement, the other 4 frosh that played a lot this year need to all make a jump....

I don't think we necessarily need to improve from where we are now, although it would be nice. We just need to start the year as good as we ended this one. That gets us in the tournament easily.

As far as replacing Jok goes. I think we will be a different team next year. It's going to be all about feeding the post and shooting 3s. To an extent it was this year. But a lot of the offense was trying to free up Jok. Now we will be getting the ball to Cook and Pemsl and kicking out to Bohannon, Moss, and Ellingson. With Baer running around being Baer. That is a downright lethal offense. Hopefully they improve on defense.

I've pointed this out in another thread, but I'll say it here too. Bohannon is an unbelievable passer. The angles he uses to not only get the ball in the post, but getting the ball to the post in a position to score, is something I've never seen from an Iowa player. What a great time to have a player like him when we have two of the better post scorers we've had in a long time. Then when you factor in his range on 3s, not only is he feeding the post at an elite level, he's giving the post players way more room to work.

This team will no doubt be the most efficient team of the McCaffery era. If they can get to where they play average defense (they are getting close to average already) they will win a conference title of two before they're done.

yeah there are a bunch of idiots on this board, this year it was Jok, last year it was Jared, the year before White, the year before Marble..............

It seems like a lot of people are judging Jok's career by his last game. Who was the last player we had that led the conference in scoring and was our 1st or 2nd leading rebounder. Defense was bad but there's not a lot of scorers who are good at defense.

Jok went from a kid whose only offers were iowa and drake, and transformed into a first team all big ten player who led the conference in scoring. I will take that and thank him for his service! Congrats on a Great Career and I won't forget that silky smooth jump shot for a while.

If it wasn't for Jok we wouldn't have beaten Indiana the first game and thus not in a position to be on the bubble in the first place.

I like all your comments here and I believe it can happen. That's why I have high expectations for the next two to three years and made my comment about Fran needing to meet benchmarks.
