Thad Matta

What makes you think that the media was responsible for putting him on the hot seat? You don't think his record did that in the eyes of his athletic director? Do you think the athletic director figures he has to make a move because everyone else says he has to make a move? You don't think all those things are a direct result of his record, as opposed to the media putting him on a hot seat?

I am only suggesting that the media had a role. And, due to limited information, I am only speculating about what happened. His record? You had better look at it one more time. Its one of the best in the country. 5 BT championships and 4 BT Tourney championships within a 13 year span.

I think its hilarious that you think the AD at Ohio State makes decisions based on journalist opinions.

More likely it was Ohio State missing the NCAA tournament the past 2 years, their top PG jaquan lyle leaving the team, all 5 members of the 2015 recruiting class leaving the team, other recruiting misses and a bleak future.

Look at his recent record. He had health issues, but some schools just don't wait around for things to change if they are going south. Iowa is not one of those, though they did pull the trigger on TD, obviously, back in the day. However, one could argue they waited on him, and that was certainly different than this.

I feel for Matta, as I think his back issues and health are the reason for this, really. But that is what it is like at some schools, good or bad.nhe is where he is because of his CURRENT record, not his past track record.

I'd like to see them hire Tom Crean to make the people in Indiana happy if he were to be successful.

Rumors from a Buckeyes board is that OSU is considering Hoiberg. Got to believe that's not happening. I doubt they want a coach who hates recruiting and doesn't know how to spell defense let alone spell it,

And in a real shocker a cyfan had this to say.

Apparently "The Street" (whoever that is) is reporting it is between Prohm and the Butler head coach. Personally I find that very hard to believe, but did have two ISU friends text that they had seen that.

Matta's seriously only 49? Holy crap! When I heard he was done, I didn't think anything of it because I thought, "Eh, he's old, was going to quit soon anyway." Had no idea he was only 49.

From CyFan (clonedude):

If Fred goes to OSU, then it just says that he truly wasn't happy at ISU IMO. It wasn't about not liking recruiting, or just leaving for his "dream job" any longer if he takes the OSU job. It is a big slap in the face of ISU and the fans.

In fact, if Fred gets close to 6 million a year to coach OSU, then he's easily the biggest scammer in the history of coaching IMO. What has he really done to earn the money he's earning? Got ISU to the Sweet Sixteen a time or two? He somehow turned that into a 5 year 25 million dollar deal to coach the Bulls? Wut? How?

And in Chicago he's done absolutely NOTHING, and is likely on the hot seat, so hey, why not jump at the shot to turn that into 6 million a year at OSU for several more years before people begin to realize you just aren't that great, right? I mean why not? Fred would be getting paid more than both Coach K and Bill Self.... for doing what? Taking ISU to a a couple Sweet Sixteens? Coach K and Bill Self do that nearly every single year and have won multiple titles.

So as I say, you can't blame Fred at all, but talk about a guy that has scammed his way into tons and tons of money. Good on him.

Job has been offered to Greg McDoormat. Sounds like a move of a team that wants to remain a football school.

Folks in Omaha are losing their mind over not wanting to lose him - people in Columbus are losing their mind over potentially getting him. Sounds like a lose lose for everyone. Personally - as an Iowa fan who hates Creighton fans (most of them are smug enough to think this is a lateral move) for the most part, I'd like to see him leave for greener pastures and make CU more of a stepping stone gig.

I think McDermott is a good coach, but he may be to honest to be a great recruiter. It should help Iowa in their recruiting.

McDermott turned down Ohio State.

I was really surprised. Seems like it would be a logical move for him; always thought highly of his coaching skills. But, he knows best. There are always a lot of things we don't know when it comes to why someone turns down a job, I'm sure.
