Thad Matta

very interesting. He's only 49 years old so retirement or succession plan talk would be way too early.

They are probably going to cook an egg on his forehead. That thing always looks like it's 1000 degrees and greasy.

P.S. I'll feel like a total jerk if he's sick or something.

I don't get the lame duck coach thing.

I dont either. Its just going to cripple the program going forward. I realize they're already down in the dumps, but firing him now gives the next coach a jumpstart on recruiting. Letting Thad coach this last season just means their next recruiting class is going to be a lost cause...just so they can give thad his "due" as if the money wasn't enough.

He has a bad back from a botched back surgery he had years ago. Its to bad he has to quit coaching. Matta should of bought an inversion table.

Sounded like it wasn't so 'mutual' School wants him out but didn't want to look like a bad guy by firing him. He wants to coach still. Sounds like he's not in too good of shape and hasn't been for awhile. Not being able to leave on your terms sucks. But not many get to. That'd be a heck of a gig. But with the timing being what it is they may have to interm hire a guy for a year...

That spot is the same as Gobachev. they're twins.

So, a guy who has an unreal record at OSU has some health issues. Then the media starts putting on the hot seat. Then, recruits take that to heart and start to bail. Then the AD calls him in and sets up a resignation, so to speak. Thad, true to his well deserved good rep, gracefully retires. He does get a nice parachute. Sound about right? Now ask yourself, "why do big time coaches get such lucrative contracts?"

What makes you think that the media was responsible for putting him on the hot seat? You don't think his record did that in the eyes of his athletic director? Do you think the athletic director figures he has to make a move because everyone else says he has to make a move? You don't think all those things are a direct result of his record, as opposed to the media putting him on a hot seat?

His outing is not atypical of nornal business climate today. Dif is that he likely doesnt have to work another day in his life. Good coach in bad situation. He doesn't have 4 kids and wife he needs to buy cobra for on an unemployment check.
