Terrelle Pryor facing significant inquiry

lol...Rittenberg just tweeted that Pryor showed up to the athletic complex in a car that looked new with temp tags.

Stupid is as stupid does (and will continue to do).

They wont get the death penalty. I dont think we will see that again.

Unfortunately, as programs are proving time again, without the threat of the 'death penalty' by the NCAA, what have they really got to fear?

I mean, damn, USC gets all sorts of stuff handed down against them, and they go out and hire Lane Kiffin. Even after losing the appeal of the sanctions, USC still acts like they've never done anything wrong.

The NCAA will never penalize another program as harsh as they did SMU. I may be mistaken but I think they even recognized that was too harsh of a penalty
Yay, another person just made something up about the NCAA.

They won't get the death penalty but the reasons have nothing to do with SMU. IMO they will get stung pretty hard since their last sanction was in 2006.

If it was his last game I know he is close with Charlie Batch maybe he starts hanging out and working out with him. Hiring that QB coach guru that worked with Roethlisberger during his suspension and currently working with Cam Newton. George Whitfield, Jr.??? I am sure that guy gets a call, too. I am 50/50 if he ever plays for OSU again.

Starting to look like there was a lot more violations going on besides just a few players and some memorbilia.
I was watching Morning Joe this morning and they refered to the SI article, there may be as many as 50 players involved in deals for autos and other items.

Iowa should be awarded a Big Ten title for 2009. Pryor never should have played in that game. Ohio State should forfeit all games played with him in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

Wait until you read the Sports Illustrated article.....:(
I agree.

But, I don't think that tOSU will get the death penalty. I don't think that any program will ever get it again, after seeing what happened to SMU. Much too harsh. I really don't know what will happen to tOSU, but it may be harsher than USC.

That picture is so silly I can't believe people still post it. It was obviously his prom ride. I have a pic of what he drove to the WHAC tonight and it doesn't help his cause....lol
Could you please post the pictures of all his other rides? When I was in college most kids from an inner city background drove a new car every 8 weeks. They also purchased homes with sub-prime mortgages 2 days after graduating. Basically they all lived the American dream.:D

Yes, obviously that is his prom picture. Look at his beautiful date in a lavish dress with a huge corsage standing next to him, and look at all of the other prom attendees walking into the high school right next to him.

Oh wait, all I see is a guy in all white clothes leaning on a newer Corvette. Honestly, I don’t even know if it is Pryor or not.

Sounds like he's been linked to a total of somewhere between 6-8 rides since he started "ballin" with OSU. I'm sorry but there is no plausible explanation for that other than the fact that he was receiving some kind of benefits. The SI article said Jamil (sp?) Martin traded 4 Rose Bowl tickets for a freakin SUV. I love how OSU fans bashed Herbstreit when he made the comment about how Tressel should stop recruiting players "like" Terrell Pryor. Well... look what happened now. Herby was correct. There was red flags about Pryor way before his college days and that didn't stop Tressel one bit. In fact, given the info. that's come out about the way he ran his program it probably encouraged him to go after Pryor.

Given this information, the Big 10 hasn't even been close to a level playing field in regards to recruiting. What is really pathetic is that Tressel was the head coach of THE Ohio State University. He didn't have to pull this crap to get top recruits, but he did it anyways. That's what is pathetic to me. If Iowa could go tell a kid, "Hey, we have great tradition, great player development, and our coaches arent' going anywhere, plus we'll get you a job that pays cash even if you no-show, we'll hook you up with some sweet rides, and we'll give you whatever you want out of our equipment room that you can autograph and sell for cash!"... I think we may have landed a few more "elite" players. I'm not saying I'd want them to be on our team if that was their attitude, but clearly this stuff gave OSU a large advantage.

Slighty off topic here, but when LeBron was in high school he drove a Hummer that was bought with the money he got from a loan against future earnings. What is the NCAA rule preventing cfb players from getting the same kind of loan? I'm sure there is a rule against it, but if a bank is willing to do this, why can't an athlete get a loan like this?

And yes, I do see this could easily become very corrupted, local banks with presidents who are boosters could magically just forgive the loan once the player's time at the school is done. Just curious as to what college athletes can legally get for personal loans.

Mike - I see what you're saying but I think it's completely different. Sure banks could "forgive" a loan later on which would make it a corrupt way to get a kid to go to a school. Aside from that scenario, very few financial institutions would consider giving a H.S. football player a loan like Lebron received. Lebron's loan was very low-risk. He was going to be the #1 pick guaranteed and straight out of H.S. Football players have to play some college ball. It would be significantly more risky for a financial institution to grant a loan to a football player straight out of H.S. They would have to hope that the kid not only performed very well on the field in college, but also that he didn't suffer any career ending injuries. In Lebron's case, they were almost positive they would get a return on their investment. I don't think that would be the case with a football player.

Oh I know it would right out of high school, but what about an AJ Green of Julio Jones type of guy before their junior year? Say Matt Barkley or Andrew Luck wanted a $50,000 loan right now, you don't think they could find a bank to give that to them? Would that be illegal per NCAA rules?

I see what you're saying... my apologies. Honestly, that's a good question. I'm pretty sure it has to be illegal in the NCAA's eyes somehow. A lot of players take out high dollar insurance policies prior to their final year (if they're pretty sure they'll be a high draft pick, I think Bulaga did this). I have no idea what the rule is as far as loans go. I just have a feeling the NCAA would frown upon any collegiate athlete receiving money based on their athletic potential or ability. Would be interesting to know tho.... I'm not quite interested enough to actually search through the NCAA rules however haha!

CP 5555: From 1981-2001 OSU won 5 Big Ten football championships. That is a far cry from the cheater's dominance. You say he should have been able to recruit at OSU without cheating. Well, not if he wanted to win the conference every year, or even 40% of the time.

People think OSU always wins the conference only because they have a skewed perspective from the cheater's decade.

I agree with what you're saying. I never said Tressel didn't have to cheat to win all those Big 10 Championships. I was just saying as the head coach of OSU he didn't have to use these weasel tactics to get top talent to come play for him. That's what is pathetic about it. I agree he wouldn't have won as many Big 10 Championships without the cheating. I just find it pathetic that he was in one of if not the most prestigious positions in college football and he still felt the need to cheat. There's enough inherent advantages to being the head coach of OSU, yet that wasn't enough.

Saw on Sportscenter last night that an Anonymous OSU starter blasted Pryor in an interview with Joe Schad. Said something like he hadnt talked to Terrelle and didnt really care to. Also said that its too bad that Tressel had to take the fall for a couple idiots mistakes.

I dont know how OSU fans are thinking this team is going to come together and roll through the 2011 season. Some players may come out with a chip on their shoulder but their is too much drama and sides being chosen right now to think that they will be looking out for each other.

I see a very inconsistent OSU team in 2011. They will beat some good teams but will also lose games they shouldnt. I think they are a 7-5 or 8-4 team in 2011.

Yeah I've seen several players say that Pryor had his own rules and would show up late to meetings and practice with no reprecussion. Tressel really bent over backwards for this kid and he ended up costing him his job.

It is being reported today that Pryor's drivers license has been suspended since Feb.
Can he get in trouble for the footage on the news stations showing him driving up to that team meeting in the 350Z on Monday? I guess all those speeding tickets in different cars eventually caught up to him...the motor vehicle dept did not know who he was, evidently.

Tressel's "bending over backwards for this kid" may have got the ball rolling but didn't cost him his job. What cost him his job is that from the sound of things Tressel treated most of his players this way. It was TP costing Tressel his job, but the fact that Tressel had no respect for authority and NCAA rules and ran his empire the way he wanted with no one to put him in his place.
