Tate ... good story

I live in Houston and met Drew at a game watch last year (vs Tennessee). Not many people there know who he was but I recognized him and sent a round of beers his way. He came over and chatted for a while with my wife and I and is honestly one of the nicest guys I've ever met. He and his folks are really great people.

I remember when he was playing here and his mother, aunt and other relatives would wear Hawkeye jerseys with Drew's mom, Drew's aunt etc. On the back. Very nice people.

Is he a starter in Canada now? I know he talked about doing some coaching at some point

I've never seen this video. Thanks for posting.

I was at that 2004 game vs Wisconsin at Kinnick. It was a magical night watching the Hawks secure a Big Ten Championship. I'll never forget it.

Drew's mom came over to the game watch vs. Wisconsin. The woman described as his aunt(Her name is Karen-she is Drews moms best friend) comes almost every week. They still have these jerseys and wear them occasionally. His actual aunt Kristi Olin also is there every week. Kristi and I ran the game watch last week due to the absence of the leader(she was at the Illinois game)

I saw Drew a couple of times last spring. Once at a BB game watch and once at an Iowa alumni event downtown. We went to one of the games in Calgary in July vs. Winnipeg. He offered to get us free tickets but I elected to buy them as I didn't like where the players comp seats are located(too low). Was a good time.

curious - a player of Tate's ilk in the CFL, what do they make per year? $200K - 500K/year?

Drew had verbaled to Texas A+M. Then Slocumb got fired and Franchione(run oriented offense) was hired. Drew realized he would sit behind Reggie McNeal. Dick played for Northern thereby leading to connection. What impressed Drew a lot about Iowa when he was in HS was when Hawk fans tore down the goal posts in the away game in the Metrodome.

I don't know what Drew makes. When Brad Banks was a backup for the Alouettes he was making maybe 100K a year. The CFL isn't the NFL. McMahon stadium in Calgary holds 35K. The game I went to had maybe 29K there. It was more of a college atmosphere than a pro atmosphere. A lot of the linemen make only 60-70K a year. At one time they practiced at 4:00 as a lot of players had day jobs. I don't know if that's still true or not. Its certainly different than the NFL. They can certainly tailgate however.

I remember that one time he threw a long touchdown on the last play of the game. It was awesome.
