Tanner Miller

He was participating in a track meet that I was working at this past Monday. Let me tell you, if he is as impressive on the gridiron as he is on the track, we maybe talking about the next in line of great Hawkeye safeties. First the kid has a very solid frame to pack on another 15-20 lbs of muscle. Second, the kid is tough. He won the 200 meter dash vs very good competition (3 kids including Miller ran sub 22 sec). He then ran the following race: 400 meter low hurdles, which is the most grueling race in track. He ran a sub 56 sec 400 mlh but got nipped at the end. I came away very impressed with this young man!

Way to go Tanner! I watched some of his film and was very impressed with his speed. Looks like Greenwood and Sash have another rookie to look out for!

Saw him run at the Drake Relays....was really impressed with him.

Even more impressive was Solon and their 4x100 team....pretty sure James Morris was the anchor on that team.....wow.

Ever run the 800? That is the most grueling IMO. I'm still puking...33 years later.

db93- Yes, I was an 800 runner back in the day, and yes I would agree it was a very taxing race. However, I sided w/ my brother who was also an 800 runner. He ran the 400 mlh once and swore he would never run it again, which he didn't. I never attempted it. He scared me straight!

I'm very excited about our 3 safety commits from the 2010 class. Miller, Hitchens, and Shumpert all seem like pretty impressive guys. I'm VERY excited to see how they end up developing!

Did he play QB in High School? I looked to see if there was any highlights of his past season. It was basically highlights of a #17 Tanner Miller playing QB and he had a pretty nice arm.

I ran the 2-mile, 1-mile, and 800 my senior year (just 2 years ago). That's a pretty intense lineup, but if I'd ever been asked to run the 400 lows, I would have looked my coach in the eye and said "No. If you want me to kill myself, give me a gun. Don't torture me first just so you can get your giggles on."

That's funny as I had the misfortune of run each as well (2mi/1mi/800/400lows) and I'd take the first three plus an anchor spot in the 4x800 before I'd combine anything with the 400lows again
