Tackling

I am impressed with our tacking. I've watched many games the last couple weeks, and believe that we may be one of the hardest hitting and best form tackling teams in the country at this point.

You might be right. ISU on the other hand, couldn't seem to tackle to save their lives. How many times did they miss ARob on his long run?

What impressed me about our tackling was we had multiple guys flying to the ball. I thought we might not be that sharp yet one on one, but on almost every play we had nice help.

Run to position, settle, wrap, rip and drive. Such a beautiful thing. Fundamental, actually. Congratulations players, coaches and fellow members of HawkeyeNation.

There were a couple attempts to bring ISU ball carriers down with big hits, which isn't very sound, but there was also great pursuit so if they didn't go down with the hit, they weren't going anywhere.

tackling is quickly becoming a lost art in all of football.

This +1000. Too many guys trying to make Sportscenter, not enough guys trying to make a tackle...I'm glad almost all of our attempts today (and a vast majority of the time) qualify under the latter.

I felt like the tackling today was subpar, at least for a couple players. In particular I saw Sash miss at least a few tackles trying to hit guys down rather than use good form. I think ISU had some tough ball carriers and WR's that didn't go down easily, but it doesn't matter - you still need to hit, rap and drive, not just hit.

And those that posted above are 100% correct - form tackling is unquestionably becoming a lost art, and in particular becoming a dangerous endeavor b/c so many players drop and lead w/ their heads.

It was nice when one of the TV guys gave Nielsen credit for good tackling form and not using his helmet as a weapon.
