T-Minus 1 Month Until MLS Starts

My advice: go to a game. Kansas City, for instance is a phenomenal facility and atmosphere. Besides, the Premiership is a poor comparison. MLS is a far more physical league. I'll concede that the league is less athletic, but it has more than its share of talented players. Like any other league, it's health is based the worth of its stars, and MLS is developing some great ones. See:

Brek Shea, Dallas
Darlington Nagbe, Portland
Jamison Olave, Real Salt Lake
Teal Bunburg, CJ Sapong, Kansas City
Omar Cummings, Colorado
Eric Hassli, Vancouver
Shalrie Joseph, New England
Brad Davis, Houston
Nick Labrocca, Chivas USA
Juan Agudelo, NY

And every player for Columbus.

I hate soccer, but I saw my twin boys play a couple of football games in Crew Stadium. A wonderful facility. The Worthington Kilbourne - Grove City regional final in '99 filled the place. Something like 27-28 thousand people for a high school football game.

Ohio high school football, a whole different world than Iowa.

I can't decide if the OP is serious...

I don't like soccer, either. Regardless, I have a dream that one day soccer threads won't be hampered by endless derailment attempts.

Take it easy, haters. If you don't want to discuss it, don't post. Nobody cares that you don't like soccer.

MLS is growing steadily in quality. Those who enjoy soccer and have passed on MLS may want to revisit it. It is hands-down my favorite professional league. And no, I'm not being sarcastic. Go Crew.

Mine was actually an honest question. I am a big soccer fan, just not of MLS. The World Cup is my favorite sporting event.

I've noticed that on HN, there are certain to be quick derailments whenever the subject of soccer, baseball, the NBA, or pop music get brought up. Those four subjects bring out lots of people that see the thread title, know what the thread is about, think to themselves, "I hate that, and everyone needs to know that I hate that," and proceed to let everyone know that they hate the subject. It's pretty irritating.

On topic--I've heard the MLS has the best regular season atmosphere of any pro sport in America because die hard fans can afford good seats. I've gotten more into soccer the past few years, and I really like the way Seattle has played the last 2 seasons. I am a big fan of Fredy Montero.

I live in Seattle in the summer - SunBird.

I also lived in England at one point.

The environment at a Sounders match equals what you get at a premier league match. In fact, I think the Sounders would be like the fifth biggest draw based in attendance in the English premier league.

Really seems like this is something that is going to be driven from the West Coast. As these teams continue to build fan bases, you will see television contracts grow and ticket revenues expand so that the league will get more competitive with acquiring players.

One thing I think you will see is an increase in African continent players who just grow tired of the racial slurs they hear in the premier league.

MLS is doing it smart by not overreaching right now. Keep building steadily add an occasional Henry or Beck and someday you will have a pretty decent professional league.

As far as fans go, enjoy the environment, concentrate on the good (still must appreciate Beck's set play kicks) and overlook the rest.
