T-Minus 1 Month Until MLS Starts

Before soccer starts be sure to reflect on the proper soccer etiquette.

Well, I think the most important thing is that USMNT players are starting and playing. Yeah, Deuce could go to Everton. He could go to Sevilla. He could go to Fiorentina. But would he be playing 80 every week? He'll do that in Seattle, and MLS isn't exactly bushleague these days.

Just like Landon Donavan, would rather compete against amateurs in MLS instead of going up against the best in the world.

???

He went up against the best of the world for seven seasons and was Player of the Year for and English Premier league team twice.

He's coming back to the U.S. to play in front of 50,000 fans, make some money, and play in one of the ten best leagues in the world.

...and Landon Donvan has become the shiz nizzle while playing in MLS, in case you hadn't noticed. So have Matt Besler, Graham Zusi, Jack McInerny, Kei Kamara, Omar Gonzalez, Alvaro Saborio and Geoff Cameron.

Wow, that video on floppers and fakers in soccer just goes to show why I dont watch it much. There are more flopping and faking acts per game than goals by both teams.

Score 1-0 after 90 minutes with 20 faking and flopping acts.

We know why you don't like soccer, and posting that here is like preaching to choir of atheists. Nobody cares.

But, by all means, enjoy your circle jerk.

Like water slowly moving to the ocean, some people choose the path of least resistance. We can't blame them, its human nature to take the easiest path to what you want. If anything, its the most soccer superstar thing Landon or Clint have ever done, strong arming a league to put them on a team that they want.

Your opinion is foolish. He's taking the opposite of the path of least resistence.

A guy who posts a bunch on another board I frequent went to the Seattle-Houston game in Houston tonight. Here's a pic he took from his seats. I'm very jealous of him.

We got replacement refs to start this season, 'Grape. Does that bother you at all?

I think they'll be OK. But would sure love to see the regular guys get back on the field soon. Apparently they were informed of the lockout only yesterday as they were nearing an end of their training camp in Florida getting ready for the start of the season. Most of them were scheduled to fly directly to their game sites. But they all were informed their arrangements had been changed and they were flying home.

What a free kick to the nuts...

Actually, 'Grape, KC should be in pretty good hands this afternoon. This is the officiating crew. Alan Kelly is a former FIFA referee from Ireland. Should be a pretty good bloke, I reckon. He officiates primarily in the League of Ireland and went on the FIFA list in 2002. He has been regarded as Ireland’s top referee for the last number of years. In 2013, he joined the MLS as a referee.

Seattle Sounders vs. Sporting KC, Saturday, 3 pm ET
Alan Kelly, former FIFA Ireland. Currently lives in the United States.
Dimitar Chadarav – MLS Reserve, NWSL
Kyle Longville – MLS Preseason

I wouldn't have thought it would be a big deal until I saw the NFL last year. It could get ugly. One of those 'we won't know until we see' type of things. Officiating has come a long way in MLS in the past five or so years. Would be a shame to see it take a step back.

The consensus is that with the exception of a call or two, the replacement referees did a pretty good job this past weekend. And with regard to the questionable calls, there will always be disputes about calls made or not made. If I had to hazard a guess on why it went so well, I don't think there's as much of a gap in the experience and the expectations of the replacement and the PRO-represented soccer refs who were locked out as there was with the replacements called up by the NFL during its labor stoppage. MLS did not have to dip into the college and amateur ranks.

Still, hate to see people being denied the chance to work and get paid. Most PRO refs had to quit full-time jobs a year ago in order to become professional soccer referees, and now are without any form of compensation or benefits.
