Supporting Ferentz - change your mind?

If the hawks won a rose bowl, I would be in support of keeping Coach Ferentz.
If the Hawks won a conference championship, I would be in support of keeping Coach Ferentz.
The Hawks would need to 10 games next year and I would support Coach Ferentz.
If the Hawks win a BCS bowl next year I'll support.
If the Hawks average 9 wins over the next 2 years, he'll have my support.
The Hawks could win a National Championhip and I would still want Ferentz fired because.

Just a few examples.

Equal footing with Wisky and MSU. Further on down the line, for sure, equal footing with tOSU. Not on equal footing with Wisky or MSU? Don't want Ferentz. Thanks for reminding me: Iowa used to regularly beat MSU... now MSU and DeAntonio have evolved for crying out loud, so MSU beats Iowa regularly. If DeAntonio can evolve, why can't Ferentz? MSU, and Wisky (among others), two programs Iowa used to regularly beat have evolved and are regularly beating Iowa. No, won't stand for this much longer. Why do you stand for it, heck, even applaud KF for his 'back sliding'?

iowa beat MSU last year, in 09, in 10. how does MSU beat iowa regularly? because of THIS year?

so basically what you want is iowa to recruit speed and then start all freshman next year. because, don't know if you're aware, completely overhauling your offense without the personnel to run that offense doesn't work. ask michigan

If you seriously expect Iowa to be on equal footing with Ohio State at some point under Ferentz.... that tells me all I need to know and that is that you will never support him.

I guess I got the answer I was looking for.

I haven't seen the data you're referencing, but if Iowa is running 20 more plays per game is it due to the speed in which we run the plays or that we are actually sustaining drives and not having so many 3 & outs? That play clock seems to still get to 5 seconds quite frequently.

In the non conference this season, Iowa was up in the high 70's and low 80's for the number of plays on offense. However, I think we're back into the mid 60's to low 70's per game now. We seem to be running the same game management philosophy as we always have under KF. It seems more like GD has "learned" KF's offense, rather than GD running his own offense. GD isn't as good running this offense as KOK was.

CAAR is awesome. Ever since I have been on these boards, CAAR has been posting this. He is spot on. I think when you look back after the next two years (after the 2015) season everyone will be happy. I think it will be 3 straight 8+ win seasons at that point, and that would make it 8+ wins in 6 of the last 8 years '08 (9) '09 (11) '10 (8) '11 (7) '12 (4) '13 (8+) '14 (8+) '15 (8+)

Obviously that isn't written in stone, heck we have to get to 8 yet this year. I think they will, but it isn't a sure bet. Either way, even if it is 7 wins in '13, we are set up to have a good year next year and the following as well.

Seems like I was both right and wrong in this prediction. We did win 8 games in '13, but only 7 in '14, but we did bounce back with 12 wins in '15. Even though we didn't get 8 wins in '14, it seems I was right, everyone is pretty happy after the '15 season.

You would have been even more righterer if Kirk would have made the qb switch earlier. Why did I have to go there?

Hey that link doesn't work. Do you know how badly I was ******* raped when I posted a bad link?? . . . well let me tell you it was not fun.

You do realize he posted that link on 11-28-2013, don't you? Sure that link has been taken down since. Someone resurrected this old thread.

The board has already met it's quota of busybodies. We'll be taking applications for new positions in January. Check back with us then.

The real test will be is what happens to the Hawks when CJ isn't the qb. The real KF (new or old) will stand up.

I have to agree with this. I am hoping we have another gifted and talented QB to replace CJ after this season. It's totally possible that we just witnessed a perfect storm where the schedule was weak along with having an above average Iowa quarterback.

Gifted Iowa QBs and gifted wide receivers are not our thing typically. "Yes" we snag one here and one there but having them year in and year out "No".

Now offensive and defensive linemen "Yes" that is Iowa including tightends on that list of linemen.

I could have thrown in gifted running backs also with that previous list of QBs and receivers. We get an outstanding one here and there but no one is going to say we are known for producing those skill positions and putting them in the NFL.

Having said all of that I am a very loyal fan to my sports teams which includes the Bears, Cubs, Bulls, and Hawkeyes. Nothing like being a glutton for punishment and suffering.

CJ has been awesome. But 18 years of tests have been completed, a few have been poor and a few have been awesome, but the vast majority have been pretty good. That said, it'd be nice to have another CJ, Banks, Stanzi, or Tate show up....

To me the core issue for when KF teams don't do well centers around the qb and often the health of the qb. I do differ that the vast majority have been very good, but you did id some good ones. I'll go a step further and say they weren't very good in the system. JR obviously was very functional. I personally know someone who played with JC at the next stop and they were amazed at his arm strength which was a criticism at Iowa. He beat out a 2 year starter who had been previously recruited by D1 schools and transferred when he had someone really good in front of him. VB didn't seem to fit either. I doubt he was a bad qb.

Anyway I am pumped about this year as long as CJ stays healthy.
