I'm not opposed to LaPorta split out wide.
Maybe Ostrenga, too.

This makes more sense to me. He is lighter than LaPorta and Lachey.Maybe Ostrenga, too.
Cant read the article. But agree with the premise.According to Dochterman's latest article, Johnson is unlikely to play on Saturday (hamstring). Brecht has an outside shot of playing.
But likely looking at entering a game with 2 available scholarship WRs (Bruce and Bostick).
Some bad luck went into this, but as the article details, this has to be viewed as a programmatic failure, and this is a recurring theme at this position.
Dochterman: Iowa faces big issue at wide receiver entering season
Iowa's receiving corps has lacked enough depth, experience or health to make an impact. Sometimes it was all three concurrently.theathletic.com
Cant read the article. But agree with the premise.
How many WR have left this team prematurely?
Wow!A ton. In the 2013 - 2020 recruiting classes, there were 20 recruited (i.e. scholarship) freshman WRs.
10 transferred with eligibility.
2 switched to DB (Henry Marchese and Devonte Young)
1 medically retired (Jay Scheel)
1 switched to RB (Derrick Mitchell)
4 became good (ISM, Brandon Smith, MVB, Ragaini)
Besides those 4, only 2 others had at least 5 receptions at Iowa as a WR (Jerminic Smith and Tyrone Tracy Jr.; Derrick Mitchel had 21 receptions, but as a RB).
So a 20% hit rate on WR recruiting. Yeesh.
By the way, I understand if many are resistant to paying for a subscription sports site...but the Athletic is really good. Dochterman is positive but without being sucky-uppy; he is knowledgeable and can craft an argument; and he provides tons of informative data.
And aside from Hawk-beat stuff, there are at least a half-dozen articles per year on stories you have never heard about that are tremendous. For me, definitely money well spent.

I haven't looked it up. What does the sub costs, if I may ask?
It's a self-imposed problem. Until KFz embraces the idea of passing (particularly downfield passing) as a more integral part of the offense....an aggressive offense...getting and keeping WR talent will be tough.Cant read the article. But agree with the premise.

Completely agree. Dochterman is an excellent journalist and there is a lot of good content.By the way, I understand if many are resistant to paying for a subscription sports site...but the Athletic is really good.
