Stuff Going Around From Camp

I don't claim any insider status, but there have been a lot of internet rumors and assertions about stuff leaking out of camp. So, the value of this information is probably about that of a cup of coffee, but since I have not seen much of this posted here, I thought some might be interested in the scuttle. Don't kill the messenger for sharing gossip.

The rumors that the defense is killing the offense seems to have a lot of momentum beyond the youtube kid. I for one have no problem believing it to be true. The coaches had to take Noah Shannon off the field because the offense could not function with him out there. That is, of course, a great sign and a terrible sign.

Davidkov has retired/left the team due to injury. Richman has a nagging injury, so left tackle is a current concern.

With injuries and position changes, the OL is still a bit of a mess, which might explain why the D is killing the O. Jones has the center position locked down. Richman is the LT when he gets healthy. If not, they might flip Plumb over until he gets right. Colby is obviously a starter, likely at RT. The surprise has been Dunker likely locking up one of the guard spots. The two guard spots are the most fluid.

The RBs go 4 deep and might be the best group in a decade.

Aaron Graves is going to be a really good one. KF said that, but the kid is balling in practice.

Regani is hurt and out for at least a few weeks. KJ is easing back into it, slowly. The WR position is a huge concern at the moment. Need to get healthy.

On the flip side, the TE room is stacked. Expect to see mostly two TE sets with La Porta also flexing.

I liked, but I also hate. My biggest concerns are WR and OL, and you are doing nothing to dispel those.

This is 2 years in a row of being really banged up across the roster...is that an extended blip, or is this a systematic problem?

I suspect KF runs a more physical camp than most. I expect a lot of guys have bumps and bruises, but we still have a week to get everyone healed up. Let's hope we get there. Injuries happen to every team. So far, everything sounds manageable.

There has to be something going on when your WR room has no scholarship players uninjured. I don't know if it's because of over or under training, but it's hard to believe it's a coincidence.

Kakert said on his pod that Davidkov's done. That I'd tend to believe because he's a long standing member of the Iowa media who actually has access at times to coaches and players. It would be bad juju for him to say something like that without it being true or at least communicated to him as true.

That dork kid from Ames, he's still full of shit.

I hadn't heard anything wrong with Bruce or the true freshmen (Bostick). Have you heard they are injured too?

That sucks about Davidkov... he was a highly coveted recruit. Just sucks on a couple different levels. Damn near wish Proctor woulda reclassified and came early.

Does anybody know when the BTen network showed/talked about their trip to the Iowa camp? Last year they would devote an entire day to each team, this year it's seemed like a mishmash to me and I never saw anything advertised about when they'd show each team. Able to access now in any way?

I'd love to see Pottebaum get some run as a H-Back. BF didn't quite overlap with James Develin in NE, but he was a real receiving threat as a FB and something we could model with Monte.
I'm scared to use the guy too much as crazy as that sounds but yeah. I think having him out there is going to be huge for our offense. He's shown we can put the ball in his hands some too and I'll be surprised if they don't.

Pottebaum can move. Coached against him when he was in high school and his speed is deceptive for a big guy. His 40 was consistently 4.80 in high school, I'm assuming that's dropped a tenth or two since he put on weight @ Iowa, but even still, a 4.9 at 250 lbs is a handful to stop in short yardage situations.

Think LeRoy Hoard only faster.

We weren't down to walk-on receivers back then. We are now.

They were also on the field together approximately 60% of the time, according to tracking done by Scott Dochterman. As he says, it should have been 80%, but it wasn't like Iowa never utilized them together.

The first bold made it move in my pants. That's exciting to hear!

2nd bold is no way "balling it" came out of KF's mouth. Lol.

I was going to post this earlier this week. Don't be surprised if we do not see a lot of WR play in that first game with SD State, due to the concerns at WR. I suspect we will see an onslaught from the deep RB and TE that first game or two, due to quality depth at those two positions and trying to avoid more injury to the WR position.

I so wish Iowa would use their FB more. Been yelling for that for years. Just another thing for the defense to have to prepare for.
