Student Section Last Night

The student section was very small, but very boisterous last night. I sat right behind the press and could clearly them. One of CMU's players airballed a shot at the very beginning of the game and the student section was on him the rest of the half until he finally made a shot. I also appreciated their attempts to distract CMU when they were attempting free throws. No doubt the cold and it being a Monday were the cause of the small turnout.

It was nice to see us win even though we didn't have anywhere near our best showing. We couldn't hit water falling out of a boat in the first half and still had the lead at halftime. CMU played very good defense, and that's the type of team that will give us problems this season in my opinion. We struggled to create shots, especially in the first half, and we weren't able to penetrate the lane with any success until the second half. We should do well against other teams that like to run.

When I was in high school the whole student section would be pretending to read a newspaper while the opposing team's lineup was introduced. Once our team was announced everybody would throw their newspapers and get crazy. It was pretty neat.

To expensive to do that nowadays, broken ipads and tablets would be everywhere!

Ummm ya can we have some credit please we kinda wrecked those kids nights with the early airballz.

And as far as "sucks" thing it will not be going any where anytime soon sorry to say.

The sucks chant is super lame. The crowd last night was bigger than i even expected and they were louder than expected. Carver just needs to reboot the whole fan experience a lot like football. Play more loud music and less awful pep band. In high school, i liked to focus more on just being ridiculously loud than annoying chants like "sucks" or "iowAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA".

I was in the student section for both games. The first game was definitely bigger, but that was because of the Dance Marathon thing. All students involved with Dance Marathon, the largest student org, got a free ticket. Last night the students were definitely louder and more involved.

Definitely agree on the pep band. I feel there's a place for a band in football, but not basketball. And I certainly don't want the pep band to be the primary source of pump up music, because it has the exact opposite effect. The only time it's nice to have them there is after a win for "In Heaven There Is No Beer".

I thought the student section was fine last night. At least they make some noise. We really have a serious problem with some of the older fans though. Not sure why they even attend the games anymore. It's not to cheer on the team, that's for sure. If we could just have the "Dayton" crowd show up for every game, Carver would be back to being the intimidating environment it used to be (back when the Badgers truly sucked year after year).
