Strategies for beating TENN on January 2nd

Play CJB or Ricky Stanzi at QB.

Offensively: I think we have to run run run, and hit the pass game at around 8-15 yards a pass. Once the Tennessee D comes up on the medium passes and run game. Hit the deep ball. THIS IS REALLY WHAT EVERY COACH WANTS, BUT HEY. We need to utilize the speed of Wadley, Parker, and Canzeri. Tennessee has 2 starters on D not playing.

Defensively: Dont change anything besides, stack the box. Make Tennessee beat us with the pass. Don't let Joshua Dobbs scramble to keep plays alive or thrown on the run.

Special Teams: Don't play like you did against Nebraska.

Attack the middle of their defense with the run game. Force them to commit 8-9 in the box and then capitalize on 1 on 1 situations on the outside and use a heavy dose of play action passes to hit a few bombs over the top.

Pray Ferentz steps down.... really! That way the coordinators can run our strengths and not try to force a square peg in a round hole.

Teams did this to us the entire season, they have nothing to fear because we don't have a rb that is a big play threat, and Rudock simply cannot beat anyone with his arm.

Run straight at them, no outside zone, run jet sweep action a lot and give it a chance a few times.
Run hard play action and deep passes, run more 5-7 yard slants.

Stop the run first on defense

Don't play not to lose.

Hey ! That's a double negative

Keep their QB in the pocket and make him throw. He is not accurate.

I have faith in our offense. At least against this D. My concern is our D vs their QB. We haven't fared well against his type this season.

hate to express it in negative terms but I will.

Ruddock needs to avoid panic and going through progressions too quickly

Receivers need to get separation

OLine needs to execute well - UT is 9th in SEC in run defense

RBs need to read the blocks see the cut backs when they are there.

no dropped passes, no fumbles, no interceptions.

Quicker release and on time - more deliberate passing

Know your own tendencies.

Show some creativity on offense for crying out loud.

I don't know what you need to do in the trenches to stop sone read / veer stuff but they need to do it.

Make them drive the field.

I'd like to see some big plays on special teams.

Great thinking but with JR in, his thought on "hit a few bombs" are dump offs to Bullock to try and hospitalize him. Now if CJB is in I think he will stetch the field North South opposed to East West.

No sure.

I did get a chance to see the game plan the other day and it goes a little like this (dont tell Tennessee)

Offense

1st down - run to the short side of the field
2nd down - run to the short side of the field
3rd down - bubble screen to the long side of the field
4th down - punt

Defense

Play 10 yards off the receiver. Play with your back to the ball on all deep passes. Bend dont break, so we can spend as much time as possible on the field and tire out in the second half.
