Strasburg MLB Debut

June 8 vs. Pittsburgh. I'm very excited about seeing him in the rotation in Washington. He has the potential to be the best in baseball as early as next year.

Washington Nationals prospect Stephen Strasburg to make debut against Pirates on June 8 - ESPN

Right now the best in baseball is Ubaldo Jimenez. No way Strasburg can be expected to put up Jimenez numbers right away. I had a chance to see him pitch in Denver a couple weeks ago. He didn't have his "A" stuff that day, but he is nasty.

He's now 10-1 w/ a 0.78. Those stats are nuts. And he pitches in Denver!

I agree Jimenez is awesome right now, but he will cool off and over the course of a full season, any of about 6 pitchers could be considered the "best" in baseball (Jimenez, Greinke, Halladay, Sabathia, Lincecum, Hernandez, give or take a few others, I know I'm forgetting someone obvious). Strasburg COULD enter that stratosphere very soon.

I would hold off on making this statement until you see him get a major leaguer out. not saying he wont be great, just that some people need to throw some cold water on themselves when it comes to Strasburg. Especially this person who paid $16k for a Strasburg baseball card:

It sold for $16,403

All the so called experts said the same thing about Mark Pryor. Big difference from dominating AAA hitters then major leaguers.

Mark Prior did dominate big league hitters. He was 19-3 and third in the Cy Young voting in his first full season in the majors. Injuries, not lack of effectiveness, were his downfall.

You must be a Cub fan. While he did finish 3rd in the Cy Young voting he was NOT 19-3, try 18-6.

My mistake. Weird that I didn't know that one right (I'm not sure why you would have to be a Cubs fan to misremember a stat). Still, he was very effective, which was the point I was trying to make.

As in Felix? Livan? I would put neither in the top 10. You are forgetting Cliff Lee, Adam Wainwright and Chris Carpenter. As a Braves fan, I am high on Time Hudson and Tommy Hanson, although Hanson has struggled a bit this year. He is not in the top 10. David Price is approaching the top 10 at this point. Other good ones out there are Lester/Beckett from Boston and AJ Burnett (great stuff, but injury prone).

I meant Felix, who is definitely top-5 in the AL and maybe in all of baseball.

I like Felix, but he has two wins this year, and has not won a game since April. He only has one great year in his career, but it was last year when he won 19 games. If he played for just about any other team he would win 15-20 games every year. See, what I have done here is actually start the post with the intention of disagreeing with you, but in the end, I actually agree... Haha. Felix is GREAT! :)

Lol, nice post.
And he is still only 24, so he still has a lot of room for growth and improvement.

Anyone remember David Clyde out of Texas? Was suppose to be the greatest pitcher ever. Didn't turn out that way.
